Aiming at the issue of the separation between the process of design and construction,as well as inefficient situation in contemporary Chinese architectural practice,this thesis reexamines the generating mechanism and the methods of operation of design and construction in architectural system.The research takes the modularity theories and methods as the main contents to integrate all subsystems of the “design with construction” system.Basing on modular system,the research proposes the optimizing methods of architecture design and the efficient paths of construction process to ensure the integrity and fluency of information delivery,in order to make the integration between the design and construction process and improve the efficiency of the system.The research emphasizes how to establish new methods of architecture design and construction basing on the modular system.It contains three aspects: arrangement of modular system,modular decomposition and recombination and modular design and construction.The first is the research of modular system in architecture.Reconstruct modular system combining with problems in architecture by means of explanatory research and logical argumentation,forming a new definition of modularity and a scientific cognition of modular operation in architecture;The second is the research of the method of the module division and the mode of module integration and connection.How the modules intervene in the “design with construction” process are clarified utilizing diagram generation,logical argumentation,Design Structure Matrix and SPSS statistical analysis.Mathematical analysis and cluster analysis are used to recombine the modules with the application of information gathering,concurrent engineering and collaborative design,and it will renovate traditional architecture design and construction process;The third is the research of the method of modular space combination,the mode of module integration and connection.Basing on the modules,like sticks,slabs and blocks,the research establishes the method of modular space combination by diagram generation,transformative design and simulation modeling,in order to set up relevance with the traditional space design and optimize the modular space operation with systematicness.Connecting the methods of case studies,investigation and interview,the research explains the mode of module integration in physical system and the connection types and the logic of construction of modules which are different from the traditional construction.There are three innovative results in this dissertation: Modularity theory and method are introduced into architecture to expand the domain of research and enrich the current methodology of architecture in “design with construction”;The methods in fabrication field,such as Design Structure Matrix,incidence matrix,statistical analysis,mathematical analysis,cluster analysis are applied,which demonstrates the scientific methods of module division and recombination in the modular system.It promotes the integration of architecture design and construction process.The research establishes how to build the “design with construction” model of modular system in order to guide the architectural practice in highly efficient and intensive operation in architecture design and construction.
