Urban Context Protection And Regeneration Strategy From The Perspective Of Urban Art Design

Urban context,as the consequence of historical information accumulation,influences and promotes the formation of urban characteristics.Cities in China have particular features of long-term,broad-space and substantial cultural composition in urban development,and so there are planning guidelines set for highlighting the distinct characteristics of each city.However,the images of cities still tend to be similar and the “characteristics crisis” continues to burn out of control.Urban context appears the situations of rupture,distortion and vanishing,rather than being fully protected.People not only cannot cognize other cities via urban built,but the memory of hometown have been becoming dimmed and blurred.Therefore,this study is mainly concerned about the research and analysis of the protection and continuation of urban context based on the knowledge system of urban environmental design.It aims to provide some theoretical and practical basis for reconstruction of city image.The study explores the essence,current situation and problem-causes of urban context by means of literature analysis,site investigation and case comparison.It first makes a brief review of the theories of context and urban frameworks,and analyses the concept of urban context in two aspects---“form” and “meaning”,then comes up with the idea of the “ combination of form and meaning”;secondly,based on the current and potential issues existing in the process of context protection and continuation,the study discusses the urban planning mode,development mechanism and design methods to enhance the sense of the place and memory of city;lastly the study takes Shenyang as research object and discovers advanced experience for urban context protection and continuation through case studies and comparative analysis,and develops reformative suggestion to improve current situation.The innovative aspect of the study is to construct the cognition framework of urban context through multidisciplinary views of its concept and contents.It is considered as the response to partial perspective and monotonous design of urban built,so as to provide multilevel realization of urban context for policy makers and environment users.With the causal analysis of the practical significance of urban context,the study tries to modify the superficial trend of the urban context and raise the public awareness of culture protection.Moreover,the study sheds light on the causes of inadequate protection of urban context and hidden threaten of urban development in Shenyang,thus puts more effort on to optimize the strategy of context protection and to remedy the development defect combined with local situation and foreign experience.
