The World Of Engraving In The Life Of Literati In The Jiangnan Area During The Wanli Period

In Wanli period,whether theory or practice of literati’s seal cutting had reached an unprecedented height.From the seal cutting practice,the Wanli period is the beginning of a new historical period in Chinese seal cutting art history to some extent.From the seal cutting theory,it can be regarded as the peak of the Ming Dynasty or even the history of Chinese seal cutting.In addition to collecting the ancient seal cutting works,the compilation of literati’s personal seal carving works become a kind of atmosphere in the Wanli period,which related with the increasing demand and active market of the seal cutting.And most of the best seal carving works in the late Ming Dynasty comes from the Jiangnan region,literati’s seal activities were also gathered here.This article uses some methods of new historical research.To avoid just focus on the seal cutting art itself,we from the Wanli Jiangnan literati carving aspects of the start,related to the Jiangnan economy,the situation and mentality of the literati,elegant style,Jinshi collection,painting and calligraphy market,publishing and printing,technology and other aspects in the Ming Dynasty of Wanli period’s literati in Jiangnan area has made a systematic,in-depth and comprehensive research.Some questions were considered and some opinions were put forward.
