In recent years,the teaching of Chinese as a second language in Malaysia has been steadily developed,but there are still many problems in Chinese teaching methods,and the teaching effect is not satisfactory.The existing research in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages in Malaysia mainly focuses on the study of Chinese ontology,error analysis and comparative study.There is a lack of research on the methods of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages in universities.In this paper,the approaches and methods in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in Malaysian universities is stated as the research object,and the related problems of Chinese teaching method in Malaysian Universities are discussed.Under the guidance of the relevant teaching approaches,this paper puts forward some suggestions to optimize the teaching methods of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages in Malaysian universities by referring to the Chinese teaching methods in China university on Malaysian students.This paper mainly used the literature method,observation method,questionnaire survey and interview to carry out the research.Firstly,the concept of second language teaching and teaching method of teaching Chinese as a second language are systematically sorted out as the theoretical basis of this study.Secondly,questionnaires and interviews are carry out through those Chinese language teachers in public and private Malaysian universities,to examine their cognition of teaching methods,their own teaching ideas,and existing problems in teaching methods.Finally,the teaching method of Beijing Foreign Studies University on the project of Malaysian native Chinese teachers were investigated to understand the specific teaching methods and teaching theory in the classroom teaching,hoping to find a reference for Malaysian universities.The survey of this paper is focus on the Chinese Language Units in Department of Language and Applied Linguistics of Malaysian Universities.Among public universities included University of Malaya and Universiti Putra Malaysia,the private universities included Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Institute of Information Technology and Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysia France Institute.Through the research of this paper,five teaching methods which were most often used by Chinese teachers in Malaysian Universities,respectively:Translation Method,Communicative Approach,Cognitive Approach,Audio-visual Approach and Task-based Language Teaching.The main features of China foreign language teachers in specific teaching methods are as follow:complying with the principles of teaching and training;prevent to use media language;pay attention to explain Chinese culture knowledge,provide a large number of examples for inductive teaching;and apply various classroom teaching methods and teaching skills to provide learners with comprehensible input.Generally speaking,there are few problems existing in the teaching methods of Chinese teaching in Malaysian universities:first,the use of target language is insufficient;second,the proportion of speaking and training is inappropriate;third,attention pay to the sentence pattern and ignore the text teaching,fourth,the lack of practice of intercultural communication language ability;fifth,a monotonous form of classroom questioning.The most common used teaching methods of Chinese teachers in China university for Malaysian students are Audio-visual Approach,Communicative Approach and Audiolingual Method.The main characteristics of specific teaching methods of China's teachers in teaching Chinese as a foreign language are:following the teaching principle of "explaining concise,practicing more",and using various classroom teaching methods and teaching skills.Finally,this paper proposes the following recommendations from the premise of optimizing Chinese teaching method in Malaysia:in the aspects of teaching idea,teachers should concern Chinese education policy under the social development for future teaching objectives;encourage teachers to refer to the"post method" education idea for their own teaching reflection;pay attention to Chinese liberal education idea as reference;dissemination of the target language input and Chinese culture in teaching;pay attention to the cultivation of learner autonomy learning.This paper also focus on the theory discussion of nationalized teaching research of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages,an addition to the case study in nationalized Chinese teaching methods research,which enrich the relevant research.
