David Pepper is one of the important representatives of British eco-socialism, but also is an important representative of the third stage (from the1990s to present) in the eco-socialism development history. The eco-socialist thought of David Pepper gradually formed in the western ecology movement, absorbed Marxist view of nature,ecological crisis theory of the Frankfurt School scholars, point of view related to Marxism of Structuralism and Eco-socialist ideology of various other eco-socialists. The most fundamental characteristic of the eco-socialist thought of David Pepper is that it has a distinct "red" position. David Pepper has revealed the root causes of the ecological crisis of capitalism, criticized eco-centrism of the postmodern, analyzed anarchism. He suggested transforming eco-centrism to Marxism, reshaping the new anthropocentrism, and advocated socialists and anarchists to associate with each other, making "the red" and "the green" an alliance to build an eco-socialist society for social justice. David Pepper's eco-socialist thought had a greater impact in the academic theorists and got an important position. David Pepper's eco-socialist ideology has a strong practical significance and also great theoretical value for both of the current construction of ecological civilization and the social construction.This article will be divided into six chapters, consisting of the introductory section, the theoretical background and ideological origins section, the main ideas and inspiration comments section. The main content of specific chapters are as follows:The first chapter is the introduction of this paper, describing the significance, research status, research ideas, research methods, innovative points and difficulty of this topic.The second chapter mainly discusses the background and theoretical origin of eco-socialist thought of David Pepper. Firstly, this chapter begins with a brief introduction to the generation of eco-socialism Pepper's ideological transformation. Secondly, this chapter deals with the social background of the eco-socialist thought of Pepper from three aspects, namely the ecological crisis of capitalism, the flourish of the western ecological movement and drawbacks of traditional socialism. Finally, this chapter explains the theoretical sources of the eco-socialism thought of Pepper from five aspects, namely Marxist view of nature, related theory of Marxist, ecological crisis theory of the Frankfurt School, relevant ecological point of view of the structural Marxism and the eco-socialist thought of other ecological Marxist scholars.The third chapter describes David Pepper's thought of the ecological crisis of capitalist. This chapter first discusses Pepper's criticism of the ecological crisis theory of environmentalism and Pepper's reveal of the nature of ecological crisis theory of environmentalism. Secondly, Pepper presents his analysis of the root cause of the ecological crisis of capitalism from four aspects:purposes of capitalist production, means of production, means of consumption and social injustice. Finally, this chapter discusses the strategies about Pepper's solution of the ecological crisis of capitalism problem.The fourth chapter introduces David Pepper's doctrine of the status of the human body. This chapter describes Pepper's criticism about the destruction on the relationship between man and nature caused by environmentalism. Secondly, discusses Marxist critique on eco-centrism made by Pepper. Finally, explores Pepper's ideas on building a "weak" anthropocentrism.The fifth chapter illustrates David Pepper's thought of building an ecological socialist future society. Firstly, this chapter introduces Pepper's analysis of anarchism. Secondly, states Pepper's doctrine of contemporary eco-socialism. Finally, sums up Pepper's ideology of the future society construction of eco-socialism.The sixth chapter explores the comment on the historical value and contemporary significance of eco-socialist thought of David Pepper. This chapter first applies Marxist theory to get the eco-socialist though of Pepper a historical and dialectical analysis, pointing out defects and reasonable ingredients of the eco-socialist thought of Pepper. Then, this chapter assesses the analysis of the enlightenment on Pepper's eco-socialist for the contemporary world and China.The last section of this paper make a summary for the full text based on the research on above.
