Social Mentality And Its Guidance From The Perspective Of Public Reason

In the context of globalization,the mainstream of social mentality is positive and healthy in China during its transition period.In recent years,however,social mentality shows a prominent imbalance.Irrational social events frequently occurring in public life space tend to evoke emotional resonance,and even turn into mass disturbances sometimes,causing serious consequences to social harmony and stability,reflecting the irrational side of social mentality.To study social mentality and its guidance has therefore become a bounden duty and historical mission of scholars.Through discussing of the connotations and functions of public reason and social mentality,the paper explorates the correlation between public reason and social mentality.That is,the social mentality has the demand of public reason,and the public reason rules the structure and content of the social mentality.Thereby,constructs the path leading to the ideal state of social mentality in the public space.The core values belong to the public value of public reason,is the core of public reason,which means that socialist core values inevitably become the main content of public reason in China,deeply influence public cognition,public emotion,public values and public behavior in the public space.In-depth analysis of the internal and external factors shaping social mentality conduces to further exploration of effective guidance strategies.Interpretation of the values guiding social mentality is the foothold of research as it helps to enhance the ideological and moral quality to form a healthy social mentality at the individual level,coordinate social relations to maintain social order at the social level,and contribute to harmonious development at the national level.A rational look at the actual state of social mentality serves as a realistic basis for constructing the guiding path.Through an analysis of irrational social events that have recently occurred in public life space,the paper finds a social mentality imbalance that mainly manifests as obvious cognitive bias,irrational emotional spread,multiple values and disorder,and conflict behavior escalation.This not only hinders the development of behavioral agents but weakens social cooperation and damages the stable development of the country.The main causes of this imbalance are a lack of public reason in behavioral agents,institutional imperfections and social environmental constraints.It is thus urgent to achieve the ideal state of "self-esteem,self-confidence,rationality,peace and positivity" and show a healthy social mentality.The construction of a social mentality-guiding path must adhere to certain guiding goals and methods.According to the four core elements of social mentality and from the perspective of public reason,the goals should be to unify the cognition of behavior agents,to guide social sentiment,to avoid conflict behavior and to share the values of public reason.In order to ensure the effectiveness of guidance,principles of direction,subjectivity and truth and methods of fairness,reason and legality must be followed throughout the process.On this basis,a social mentality-guiding path can be systematically constructed from aspects of quality improvement,environmental optimization and system building.Quality improvement is the inherent basis of public reason-based guidance of social mentality.To this end,public reason education should be strengthened to form quality,public reason idea should be established to cultivate it,and public reason practice should be consciously carried out to enrich it.Efforts should be made in aspects of the starting point of education,the response of knowledge and the combination of the two.Overall,"harmonious coexistence" should be taken as the fundamental requirement,"rationality and peace" as the basic principle,"co-building and sharing" as the goal;rational emotional expression and orderly participation behavior should be realized in practice in public life.Environmental optimization is the key force of public reason-based guidance of social mentality.The economic,political,cultural and public opinion environments that conform to the healthy social mentality have constituted a support force,a centripetal force,a cohesive force and a directional force to guide social mentality.The support force can be reinforced by the maintenance of the sustained and healthy economic development and the building of a rational economic environment.The centripetal force can be gathered by the improvement of people's livelihood,a factor directly coloring feelings and emotions,and the consolidation of the harmonious political environment.The cohesive force can be enhanced through the cultivation of socialist core values and the creation of a rational and peaceful cultural environment.The directional force can be increased through the purification of public opinion space and the creation of a positive public opinion environment.System building is the necessary guarantee to public reason-based guidance of social mentality.The fair and just social system and the scientific and rational of guiding mechanism have constituted the institutional basis and specific institutions to guide social mentality.A fair and just social system is of great significance to healthy social mentality and thus should be built to ensure healthy social mentality;a scientific and rational guiding mechanism is also of great meaning to healthy social mentality and thus should be built to the same end.
