The author chooses Leiyang Event as the case,analyzes the effects of social mentality in the events arousing public sentiment on its subsequent development,explores into the status and roles of social mentality in public sentiment response,and proposes the implications on public sentiment response from the perspective of social mentality.According to the measurement index system of social mentality,the author chooses representative Internet users' remarks at different stages of public sentiment as the study sample,and present the seven aspects in the remarks in a quantitative manner,respectively,appeal and motivation,cognition expression,value orientation,emotional types and orientation,behavior types and basis on remarks from internet users in different developing stages of public sentiment,so as to present social mentality against public mentality at different developing stages.Additionally,there is analysis on specific effects from social mentality and public sentiment combined with Internet users' remarks.Later,the paper expounds on the effects of characteristics of internet users,official actions,media reports,network property and characteristics of public sentiment events on social mentality in Leiyang Event from the perspective of elements composing public sentiment,including subject,object and carrier of public sentiment as well as intermediary social items.Based on this study,as a structured factor of public sentiment broadcasting,the social mentality dominates the transformation process from public sentimental crisis to supports on the one side.And there is an agreement that the comprehensive interactions of core elements in s ocial mentality including social demands,social cognition,social value orientation,social emotions,and social behavior orientation actually determine basic types of public sentiment performance;on the other side,gradual changing trend of external elements of social attitudes in public sentiment including Internet users' characteristics,official actions,media reports,network property and characteristics of public sentiment events may affect presentation results of social attitudes.Thus,the author believes that confronting the effects and pressure of social mentality,public sentiment responses are not necessarily passive and negative.The key process is to change interactions of these various factors in social mentality,and the essence of public sentiment response is to cultivate and build a good social mentality so as to gather social common understanding,form joint social force,facilitate smooth solution of social sentiment events,social contradictions and problems exposed in public sentiment,deficiencies of governmental government and loopholes.It is concluded that the public sentiment response from the perspective of social mentality should grasp the following aspects: first,set up public sentiment response idea oriented by the public;second,satisfy the masses' demands of knowing truth,and enhance the ability of information publicity;third,encourage and protect the masses' demands of free expression;fourth,satisfy the masses' demands of social progress and gather social common understanding;fifth,facilitate legal governance as the value shared in society;sixth,actively spread the strategy of governmental image management and eliminate negative feelings;seventh,attach importance to the role of media in cultivation of social mentality.
