Research On Sustainable Oriented Product-Service System Design And Its Innovation Transition

The research topic comes from the project “sustainable product-service system design” of China Scholarship Council(CSC).By specific theory research and practice,the thesis centers on “how to understand product-service system and tend to sustainable development”.There are two key questions,including “How to understand product-service system and its innovation transition?” and “ How to support strategic design of system innovation transition?”The research mainly grouped into four parts,as the “Background information(Chapter 1),problem analysis(Chapter 2,Chapter 3),Solutions(Chapter 4,Chapter 6),the empirical case(Chapter 5,Chapter 7)”.Each chapter is summarized as follows: Chapter 1 of this research intends to introduce the problems to be solved,define goals and methods of the study based on literature review.Chapter 2 interprets existing theories of sustainable product and service system,figures out the potential of product service systems tending to sustainable development.Chapter 3 dialysis Multi-Level Perspective model,clearing its reasonability to describe sustainable product and service system innovation transition.Chapter 4 proposes a conceptual theoretical framework for sustainable goods and services innovation transfer system,trying to describe the main mechanisms of the framework “Product Service System Innovation transfer” tended to “sustainable development”.Chapter 5 completes the case study of the theoretical framework,to obtain the corrected version of the theoretical framework.Chapter 6 develops the design strategies of sustainable product and service system innovation transition,including the “design process,practice guidelines,and design tools.” Chapter 7,by three specific design practices project the author chaired,tests the developed design strategies.Chapter 8 summarizes the process and the lessons.Appendices works as the practical verification of the design tools through team research project supervised by the author.Although limited by the objective conditions and subjective capabilities,the research needs continue efforts.Based on the research of this paper,three research contributions can be summarized as follow.1.Sorting out and explaining the theory of “sustainable product-service system” and “innovation transition”.First,explains the classical theory of “sustainable product-service system”.From design background knowledge and Chinese perspective,the thesis originally explains “sustainable product-service system” in Chinese,figures out the potential of product-service system tending to sustainable development.Then it provides a more scientific knowledge base for its dissemination and application of the theory in China.Secondly carding knowledge structure of system innovation and the innovation transition.The Multi-Level Perspective model points and rationally reconstructs the knowledge structure of “sustainability oriented product-service innovation system” mechanism.Through the specific study of “product and service innovation system transfer path structure” and “process management”,clearing the feasibility of the MLP to describe “sustainable product and service innovation system tending to sustainable development”.2.Developing and optimizating the conceptual framework of “sustainability oriented product-service system innovation transition”.First,the thesis constructs the theoretical framework.Based on the goal of “sustainable development”,firstly covering the whole process of “product-service system innovation transition” by the theoretical framework and proposing a conceptual framework for the system innovation transition.Secondly verifying the previously developed “system innovation transition” theoretical framework(concept version)through case studies.By specifically description,exploring,and explaining of six typical cases,updates the corrected version of the system innovation transition theoretical framework,and makes specific explanation of the main elements of the framework.The study of “system innovation transition” theoretical framework specifically answers the first question to be solved in the thesis(How to understand product-service system and its innovation transition?).3.Developing and validating the design strategies of “product-service system innovation transition”.First,the research develops the supporting strategies of “product-service system innovation transition”.Through specific design process,practice guidelines and support tools,the thesis provides support for related designers to understand the theoretical framework and complete innovative practice.Secondly,based on relevant experience gained from three specific practical projects,the research completes the reflection and suggestions of previously developed “system innovation transition” design strategies.By developing the “system innovation transition” design strategies,the research answers the second question to be solved in the thesis(How to support strategic design of system innovation transition?).In short,the theoretical and empirical results of this research enrich and improve the “product-service system design” theory proposed by foreign scholars.Through the research of “system innovation transition tending to sustainable development”,the thesis provides practical perspectives and ideas to take root in China.Theoretical framework and design strategies from the research make “product-service system design” more systematic and operable.
