The rapid transit system in China is under large-scale construction. How to use this opportunity to guide the sustainable and compact urban development is especially crucial. The idea of TOD(Transit-Oriented Development)originated in the United States in the 1990s and has been promoted and practiced throughout the world. The concept of Green TOD is a redevelopment of the original TOD theory under the influence of the ideas of sustainable development, compact city theory and green urbanism. However, the current research about it is just beginning, especially for researches in the context of high density cities in Asia. This thesis chooses the Green TOD built environment as the research object.Using qualitative and quantitative research methods, combined with in-depth field research, this research analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of TOD built environment in the Asian Transit Metropolis in order to makes up for the deficiency of empirical research of Green TOD.Further, the Green TOD built environment evaluation system is established, and the key factors and index weights are determined quantitatively and objectively. At last, the corresponding planning and design strategies are proposed. The Green TOD theoretical system has been enriched from both theoretical level and empirical level. The thesis is divided into four parts:The first part is the basic theoretical research, summarizing and combing the related theories and cases of Green TOD.Firstly, basic research is carried out on TOD theory, compact city theory and green urbanism theory. Then analyses about the origin of the concept of green TOD are made.Combined with case studies, the practical characteristics of Green TOD in different dimensions and different urban backgrounds are summarized, and the basic connotation of Green TOD is explained. In the end, referring to the evaluation indexes related to green transportation in the assessment system of green community, the paper analyzes the correlation between 5D built environmental elements of TOD and green community indicators. The indicators and their implications enrich and refine the Green TOD Connotation. The second part is empirical research.First of all, this thesis compares two Asian Transit Metropolis—Singapore and Hong Kong on the characteristics of the TOD practices.Compared the typical cases of two cities, the TOD built environment characteristics of Asian Transit Metropolis are summarized. Then, based on the primary data collected in field research,an empirical study using GIS on the typical TOD sites in Singapore are conducted By comparing and analyzing the land use features and spatial forms within the 500-meter station area of typical sites,Asia's Green TOD mode is exploreed from both neighborhood and architectural levelThe third part is to establish the evaluation system.Based on the 5D built environment of TOD and the green urbanism theory, the evaluation system of Green TOD built environment is established.Through the analysis and statistics of the survey data in the 500-meter station area of 24 stations in Singapore, with the help of SPSS,five comprehensive factors are established as the key elements of green TOD built environment, and the weight of each index is calculatedThe fourth part is strategic research, which is divided into three scales. On the urban scale,a development along TOD corridors is necessary, including the construction of hierarchical urban function centers around rail transit sites, and the coordinated integration of transport planning and land use.On the neighborhood scale, planning the green TOD unit is crucial, including a reasonable layout of the TOD core area, creating a walking cycling friendly neighborhood and a human-oriented TOD public space. Finally,on the architectural scale,a traffic complex integrating with neighborhood is important, including catalyst and urban regeneration strategy, spatial integration and connection.
