| When Hong Kong had become a British colony after the opium war,Christianity began to enter into Hong Kong’s political,cultural,social and other fields.With the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949,a large number of Christians,mainland refugees and professionals in a short period of time came to Hong Kong,make Hong Kong become a real"refugee society",but Hong Kong government did not want to use limited resources for refugees.At that time,a lot of churches and Christian believers were willing to help the refugees on the material life,children education,skills training,etc,including John woo and his family.Because of Christianity’s selfless dedication,since the 1950s,the Christianity in Hong Kong had the important influence of the effect in the field of society,culture and education.So the influence had become a important background of the meeting of Christianity and Hong Kong film.The first meeting of Christianity and Hong Kong film was initiated by the Christian filmmaker Ming-Yau Lo,he had supervised two gospel movies:Born again(1950)and Humanity(1955).These two movies made Christian spirit as the core of the narrative film,focused on promoting Christian charity and the Gospel.Thus,as the Hong Kong film growing out of the mainland films,it gradually became the carrier of regional culture,and eventually developed into the unique cultural characteristics,Christianity in Hong Kong appeared in a variety of Hong Kong movies and had a unique effect on the development of Hong Kong film.Therefore,the relationship between Christianity and Hong Kong film is a worthy research topic.In this paper,the chapters are arranged as following:The first chapter discusses the background of meeting of the Christianity and Hong Kong film.This chapter will explain the social process of modern Hong Kong,as well as the modern Christianity in the process of the Hong Kong and the specific situation of the Hong Kong film.The context of Christianity and the history of the Hong Kong film is introduced at first for understanding specific movie.The second chapter from the historical level discusses how Hong Kong movies show phenomenon of Christianity.This chapter will be history in Hong Kong as the background,in order to develop into the installment,the phases of the Hong Kong film combing three historical periods of the Hong Kong film in different types of theme,presents the differences of Christianity,and summarize the intercommunity of each period.The third chapter inspects the Hong Kong film of the mainstream business such as two Christian directors Lung Kong and John Woo,they liked to express Christian discourse in their films.So this chapter will analyze the two directors carefully in the spectrum of Christianity.The fourth chapter will analyze Hong Kong Christian institutions,they produced a lot of gospel movies.This chapter will analyze the production,distribution and exhibition of gospel film.It wants to make a conclusion of their situations.To sum up,this paper hopes to make Christianity for the observation Angle of view to observe the Hong Kong film and Christianity in the history,at the same time some Hong Kong filmmakers and film type also deeply influenced by Christianity will be as analyzed,the work will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of Hong Kong film. |
