| The Anti-Japanese War period is the key period for the Chinese nation to save and defend the country.Taking the responsibility of protecting the country,the Communist Party of China(CPC)had made great efforts in politics,military affairs and diplomacy in order to establish the alliance of anti-Japanese united front,and made great contributions to the realization of sovereignty and national rejuvenation of China.Therefore,the Anti-Japanese War period has always been the focus of academic research.In spite of the war,journalists and writers from western countries reported China’s situation to the world and made significant contributions to China’s international support in the anti-fascist war.As one of them,Edgar Snow reported and detailed the actual situation of the CPC during the Anti-Japanese War.He fulfilled his duties,dared to explore,and reported the real situation of China’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression with first-hand information,and his work Red Star Over China made a sensation in the world.This work tells the world the truth about the heroic anti-aggression of the Chinese people and wins international sympathy and support for China.Because of this work the world knows the real China and Edgar Snow became a well-known journalist.When he saw China’s economy is in crisis,he actively promoted the Industrial Co-operatives Movement and made great contributions to China’s politics and economy.At the same time,he also played a major role in improving China-US relations and the cultural exchanges between China and the United States.This paper conducts an in-depth study on the activities of Edgar Snow in China during the Anti-Japanese War period.Specifically,include Snow’s thought changes,understanding of China’s economy,politics,culture and diplomacy,and the similarities and differences between Snow and other western journalists on China.There are six chapters.The first chapter discusses Snow’s understanding of the Kuomintang(KMT),Kuomintang leaders and local warlords.The second chapter discusses Snow’s understanding of CPC and communist party leaders.The third chapter discusses Snow’s understanding of Chinese society,including the Chinese Soviet areas economy,the Chinese culture,China’s diplomacy,major events of China,and all parts of China when Snow was in China.The fourth chapter discusses the similarities and differences of snow’s understanding of China with other western journalists,including the basic situation of other western journalists and snow’s understanding of China with other western journalists.The fifth chapter discusses snow’s understanding of China’s relations with major countries(Japan,Britain,the United States and the Soviet union),including snow’s understanding of the major countries’ policies on China and snow’s understanding of the relations between China and the Soviet union and the United States.The sixth chapter discusses The value of snow’s research,that is,how The Times call for journalists with snow’s spirit and how to make the world know China.He concluded that the Nationalist Party was a corrupt party,the Chinese communist party was a pillar of resistance,and that snow was more knowledgeable about China than other western journalists.Edgar Snow reported the real China to the world decades ago and let the world look into China.Because of his deep understanding of Chinese culture,he can grasp the direction of Chinese society more accurately and foresee many important events in the history of China.In China’s peaceful rise today,Edgar Snow’s ideas and works have a lasting appeal and are of great significance to promote the dialogue between China and the world in the new era. |
