Mencius'Theory Of Benevolent Government And Its Advantage Values In New Era

The status of Confucianism in the Warring States Period was greatly impacted by the world of powerful thinkers.Mencius,as the representative of Confucianism,was aware of the arrival of a new era while holding a special sense of crisis.In this background,he developed and upgraded Confucius' benevolence thought,and refined Confucianism thoughts as benevolence,unification of the world(Tianxia),and people-oriented thought,from his theoretical cultivation and realistic politics.The doctrine of good nature provides an equal philosophical basis for human relations.On the basis of this philosophy,Mencius thought about the social governance system,raised the theory of good nature to the social ruling ethics,and formed the theory of benevolent government.Mencius advocated "land,people and governance " as the three elements of the state.In this paper conclusion,Mencius' benevolent government theory is summarized as follows : "land,people,governance " is running harmoniously in the social system.Mencius,according to the politics of early Zhou Dynasty,found out the criteria for evaluating benevolent government is,land governed by rules,lives of the people guaranteed by systems,political or administrative management by the elites.It is Mencius' ideal of benevolent government to reconstruct the social economic foundation and social order on the basis of the theory of good nature.This point of view has outstanding significance in advance.For the ruling system of superstructure,Mencius advocated that order should be maintained by etiquette and righteousness.Mencius distinguished the concept of "good governance" from the theory of "benevolent government".He clarified that benevolent government was the political ethics of "people-oriented" formed by Mencius' idea,clearly distinguished that from absolute monarchy.Mencius emphasized that benevolence embodied respect for all life.Understanding Mencius' thought from the perspective of life ethics can deepen the understanding of the connotation of benevolence.In this research,author found a clue that the United Nations sustainable development goals(SDGs),ecological environment ethics,and the report of the 19 th CPC National Congress have clear connections with Mencius' thought of benevolence in theorical and practical aspects.From the goal of building a well-off society in China to the sustainable development of the international community,from macro to micro environmental ethics,we can find that Mencius' benevolent philosophy,which advocates the coordinated development of the three elements of "land,people and governance",and the people-centered benevolent government concept will be as a practical theory today.It proves that China's excellent traditional thought of governance,and Xi Jinping's thought are providing the correct path confidence as well as theoretical self-confidence for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
