The Research Of "Dui"-Sentence In Modern Chinese From The Cognitive-Functional Perspective

This paper takes the sentence that prepositional phrase with“Dui”as an adverbial in it in modern Chinese as the main research object,and calls it “Dui”-sentence.This paper will study the admission characteristics of each component,the correlation between the component and the grammatical function of the preposition “Dui” of the modern Chinese“Dui”-sentence from the cognitive-functional perspective.At the same time,the two negative “Dui”-sentences and the positive and negative forms of“Dui”-sentences are compared,and their similarities and differences are explained on the basis of full description.Explanations and of cognition and function will be made from mental scanning methods,construal methods,prominence methods,subjectivity,subjectification,conceptual blenging,empathy,prototype,verbal valence,semantic migration,extension and other perspectives.This paper also focuses on the metaphorical and metonymic functions of “Dui……(Neg)VP/AP ” structure,and explores the reasons and conditions for its formation.This paper is divided into six chapters.Chapter 1 is an introduction.We have made a brief review of the previous studies on prepositions,and the main influential works on prepositions are introduced and explained.It also briefly summarizes the various situations of preposition research.The previous studies on the preposition of “Dui” and “Dui”-sentence in academic circles are mainly introduced and evaluated.The significance of the topic,research content and research ideas,research methods and corpus sources,symbols and other explanations are also introduced.Chapter 2 is about the affirmative “Dui”-sentence“X + Dui + Y + Z” and gives a comprehensive description of the syntactic and semantic attributes of “X”,“Y”and“Z”.It explores the life attribute of“X”and“Y”,the referential characteristics of “X” and “Y”,and the access conditions of “Z”.And then it analyses the semantic function of preposition “Dui”,the evolution path from verb to preposition of “Dui”,the relationship between the grammaticalization degree of “Dui” and verbal character of “Z”,the functional expansion of preposition “Dui” in modern Chinese,and the relationship between “Dui” and “X”,“Y” and “Z”.Chapter 3 is about the study of negative forms of “Dui”-sentences.There are two kinds of negative forms in the “Dui”-sentence.Type A,the negative sentence“X + Neg + Dui + Y + Z” and type B,the negative sentence “X + Dui + Y + Neg +Z”.In this chapter,we compare and analyze the admission conditions of these two negative sentences.Type A and B in negative “ double permission form ” have different mental scanning methods.The negative “single-choice form”embodies different prominence methods.We establish the semantic features of the prepositions "Dui","Z" and also establish the word order and relevance between the two negative forms.Finally,we find that there are “skewed relations”of the two kinds negative sentences in the perspective of realis and irrealis.Chapter 4 is a comparative study of the symmetry and asymmetry between positive and negative “Dui ”-sentences.We study the symmetry and asymmetry between positive“Dui”-sentences and the negative type A sentences,positive“Dui”-sentence and the negative type B sentences respectively.The conclusion that the complex form of “Z” in positive sentences decides whether or not to allow the occurrence of type A or B is obtained,and the restrictive conditions for the occurrence of positive sentences in negative sentences of type A or B are also summarized.Using the plane rectangular coordinate system in the field of mathematics,this paper illustrates the diversity of positive and negative forms in the combination of grammar and semantics.We use prosodic syntax to explain the asymmetry of positive and negation in the “Dui”-sentence.Chapter 5 is an analysis about the metaphoric and metonymic functions of the“Dui……(Neg)VP/AP”structure.Also analyses the metaphorical function,metonymic function,metonymic extension in the source domain of metaphor andmetonymic extension in the target domain of metaphor of“Dui……(Neg)VP/AP”structure.It illustrates the co-function of metaphor and metonymy in the“Dui”-sentence.And then take“Dui……bu ke qi(???)”as an example to make a case study of metonymy.the conclusion summarizes the research contents of the whole paper and gave the main points of this paper.We attempt to make a comprehensive study of the “Dui”-sentence in modern Chinese from the cognitive-functional perspective in order to provide some examples and references for the follow-up study of the“Dui”-sentence.In addition,the shortcomings of this paper and the direction of future research are also summarized.
