Positive-negative interrogative sentence is a kind of important interrogative sentence classification, which forms a complete sentence subsystem with unique expressive form and rich expressive effect. Positive-negative interrogative sentence has obtained lots of attention from various aspects, however, for quite a long time the academic field carries more studies on positive-negative interrogative sentences on the synchronic dimension while studies on the diachronic dimension are obviously inadequate.This thesis, from the diachronic aspect, expounds in details the historical development course of positive-negative interrogative sentence, emphasizes describing the overall condition of positive-negative interrogative sentence of various types in different historical periods, and gives a brief account of its development on the basis of summarizing its characteristics.This thesis greatly emphasizes the logical combination of syntactic forms, semantic characteristics and pragmatic functions during the study course. On the basis of description, analysis and comparison, the thesis draws a conclusion as following: during the course of historical development, positive-negative interrogative sentence experiences not only the change of forms, but also that of semantic characteristics and pragmatic functions.
