Design is basic to human lives,it is inborn and natural.Starting with the innovation of the first implement,human beings were trying to meet their own development needs in various innovative ways by seeking affordable new materials.Nowadays,with the improvement of social productivity,a service economy is transforming into an experience economy.While the formation of different mode in production and consumption in economic based on different economic form has not only reflected different relationships in design,but also embodied the different design values.Since design has a close relationship with our modern living environment,the trend of social development and the innovation thinking,people pay more and more attention to the essence of design,to explore the potential of it.Virtually,to study the essence and influence of design is to analyze and probe the value of design.The mutual relation between design and value combines subjectivity and objectivity.On the one hand,the value of design means cost-effective or not,it's a certain kind of users' evaluation or judgment towards the service or products offered by designers.And the value of design equals to satisfying users' needs.On the other hand,both human needs and design resources are characterized of objectivity;therefore object is the origin of the design value.In the era of global economic integration and communication,a more complex interrelationship has been created,which deeply influences the needs,emotions,behaviors,experience of every human being.As a result,two important changes are taking place in design.For one thing,customization in design is beginning to come into focus.For another,evaluation,understanding of design value is gradually transferring from material based to material and spiritual based.And these two significant changes is what experience economy brings to design.To this end,it is worthwhile to rethink and study the relationship between design value and the experience economy.Design value in the experience economy is an interdisciplinary research,which involves design,economics and philosophy.The aim of this research is to explore the changes in design,and to discover the opportunities that the experience economy brings to design.Based on a systematic review of literature on design value,the experience economy and the relationship between design and the experience economy,a design value framework in the experience economy has been established to be a foundation for the case studies.The design value creation strategies have been put forward on the results and findings of two case studies.This research could be a cornerstone for further srudies on design value and the design value development in the experience economy.Besides,the findings and discussions could arouse people's awareness of design,and make contributions in promoting the development of culture and society.
