The study of epigraphy in the early Qing dynasty focuses on the writing, searching steles, rubbings and the influence of calligraphic style of Han steles. It aims to make a scientific classification of epigraphy works in the early Qing dynasty and clarify the versions, main purpose of learning calligraphy and other related situations. It illuminates some problems involved in the evaluation of Han steles before the popularity of learning Han steles by combining the research of the searching steles and other problems which are related to epigraphy in early Qing dynasty. The study of the emergence, content and evolution of the concept of "Epigraphy" makes it clear that the subject of research is the investigation of many phenomena under the academic atmosphere of epigraphy, rather than the study of epigraphy itself and related Confucian classics and historical issues.Defining the concept itself is to prove that the works of epigraphy are the main body reflecting the academic purpose of scholars. But at the same time, the social background, personal thoughts, and even the interaction between teachers and friends cannot be separated. In addition to inheriting the academic atmosphere of the late Ming dynasty, the epigraphy in the early Qing dynasty must explain the related issues of the epigraphy in the Song dynasties. The characteristics of epigraphy in the Song dynasties are the achievements and atmosphere of the joint research on bronze ware and stone inscription. The focus of the study also changed due to the problems of the times. In the early Qing dynasty, the government and scholars' research on bronze were less than 1% of stone inscription. Therefore, the subject of epigraphy in the early Qing dynasty was directed at stone inscription, and a series of research themes of this subject are also based on the writings and related issues of stone inscription. The scientific classification of the epigraphy works in the early Qing dynasty aims to clarify the tendencies and the group problems that arise in the research. For example, stone classics,"YiHe inscription" and "Tianfa Deity's stele" in the works of Epigraphy have all attracted many scholars' attention, research, appreciation and collection of rubbings. After exemplifying the case study of the writing, textual researching the version and academic purpose, extracting relevant information of epigraphy, and then taking the overall consideration of the research direction in the group's attention,we can see the evolution of the research of epigraphy, the style of academic writings and the progress and development of research methods in the past hundred years. The research and writings of scholars in the early Qing dynasty,as well as the related issues of searching steles and rubbings, are the most important sources of basic materials for the study of epigraphy and calligraphy. In many researches, the achievements of the scholars who are adherents of a former dynasty searching steles are worthy of reference. It is also necessary to sort out and investigate searching steles behaviors of the officials who help them a lot and those who like epigraphy. The interaction between scholars and officials behind the phenomenon of searching steles promoted the study and ethos of epigraphy, which was very obvious in Kangxi.Especially under the influence of typical scholars, more and more scholars pay attention to epigraphy and epigraphy literature. Therefore, around the middle period of Kangxi, rubbings had been transferred in a large number. There were many ways for scholars to study, appreciate, collect and study rubbings, such as purchase, commission, present, rub and so on.After the questions of writing, searching steles and rubbings in epigraphy in the early Qing dynasty are clear, the scholars who also pay attention to the calligraphy style of Han steles are the key for us to study the aesthetics and methods of official script in the early Qing dynasty.Through the research,it can be seen that under the promotion of the phenomenon of aesthetic focus, the learners are gradually driven. This is the era of parallel style of official script of Han dynasty,Official script in the period of Cao Wei,Official script of Tang dynasty, and style of that time, even the groups learning official script of Han dynasty are gradually expanding. In other words, the confirmation of classics and history of epigraphy itself have led the scholars who love calligraphy to pay attention to the style of inscriptions, and the extensive spread of searching steles and rubbings have expanded the group of calligraphy learners. Finally, the epigraphy associated with the "Stele Study" in the history of calligraphy is based on the Qianlong dynasty as the demarcation point, and does not trace back to the early Qing dynasty. The reason is that the study of epigraphy in the early Qing dynasty is to establish the trend of one dynasty and develop in exploration. After the Qianlong period, there was a great popularity of textual research, and epigraphy became an important force in classical philology or textology. With more bronzes and stone inscriptions unearthed, various rubbings became popular, which promoted the development of “stele study”.Epigraphy in the early Qing dynasty can be regarded as the lubricant in the source of the development of“stele study”.
