Gy?rgy Sándor Ligeti(1923-2006),one of the representatives of “New Tone Color Music”,is another internationally influential Hungarian composer in the 20 th after Bartok. The composing technique "micropolyphony" created and practiced by him laid the foundation of his style in his middle period, and played an important role in the diversified music styles after the 50 s.His idea of music creation has turned from conventional music elements such as melody, harmony and rhythm to "tone colour-acoustic".The article mainly analyzed Ligeti's works in the middle period of his career(from 1956 to opera Le Grand Macabre)from the perspective of "tone colour-texture",researching on the form of the texture, contrasting method of timbre, the basic composition of the tone colour and the parallel comparison of the tone colour. This thesis consists of four sections. The introduction is a brief overview of Gy?rgy Ligeti's life story and composing style. The first chapter is a two-part study of texture composition: the first part studies on the external form of the texture and relevant timbre elements, and discusses the relation of timbre to construction of texture of different forms;the second part deals with specific ways of writing texture and corresponding means of processing timber from the angle of timber-sound in the areas of timber, dynamics, register, and playing technique. The second chapter is a three-part study of timber composition: the first part concerns the formation of the orchestra and relevant timbre-acoustic parameters, mainly discussing the basic principle of orchestra composition as the “palette” and the effect of various “timber-sound” parameters on the specific “tonality”;the second part concerns horizontal variation of timbre, mainly discussing horizontal variation of timbre of different types as the basic logic governing horizontal dynamic development of music;the third part examines the role of timbre-texture in the overall structural layout from a macro perspective. The conclusion sums up the main points of the thesis and puts forward the author's own views.
