Universities play vital role in the creation and diffusion of the knowledge required to advance the notion of the knowledge economy. To advance technological development and innovation through knowledge economy requires cordial environment for research and innovation. To create such an environment is pertinent in order to promote sustained innovation efforts by enhancing the capacity of knowledge industries. The formation of National Systems of Innovation is perceived vital in creating an environment to intercon-nect and co-ordinate all relevant agents and manage institutional networking such as NIS,university innovation, regional innovation, and industrial relationships. However, there has been little inquiry of the determinants of technological innovation and critical factors for successful innovation in the universities of Nepal. The less engagement of innovation efforts in the universities and less advancement of industrial regime consequence the truncated discourse and low collaborative movements between two entities. In this situ-ation,study reveals the complications of university innovation that how university can generate knowledge to contribute national economy.Findings reflect, massive gaps in the trust between university knowledge production and industrial sectors is considered as the vital instrument for innovation leading to the prosperity of national economy. To excavate with the emic approach of the stakeholders of research and innovation of the university, phenomenological inquiry is applied as the research methodology to chal-lenge structural or normative assumptions of the researched. As the qualitative interpre-tative dimensions of phenomenology, enhances to be basis for practice theory, allows to inform, support or challenge existing policy and actions.Based on the interpretative on-tology,epistemology and axiology;it deals with the study of the development of human consciousness and self-awareness within the frames of observed phenomena.Following the methodological principles,in-depth interview is applied as the prime tool of data collection and interpretation moralities with the application of selective coding.Research outcome suggests paradigm shift in the research tradition from Vedic to tech-nological adoption orientation with the commitment of visionary leaderships.Lacking quality knowledge transfer through publications and teaching/instructions require to as-similate in the QAA of the university research and innovation. To enhance desirability and affluent research culture, national policy does not seem loyal for the viable environ-ment to the researchers.University teachers' autonomy is neglected for flourishing re-search and communicating university-industry relation expansion. The role of govern-ment demonstrates dreary position in the policy development and effective implementa-tion as the parenting body of concerned stakeholders. The university-government-indus-try face in different directions due to the lack of common platform to make discourse for the NIS,national R&D policy, connection of university with SEZs for developing foun-dation of strong knowledge economy and industrial development. As the results of study accomplish, complications of innovation in the universities derive from neglecting the SMEs as the tangible instruments of knowledge transfer and rela-tionship buildup.Universities suffered from the internal and external influences of political insolence in the decision making.Meanwhile, many potential co-ordination and tie-up with national and international institutes seem futile and non-symmetrical in the context of Nepali uni-versities.In tune with this, commercialization of knowledge, creation and registration of IP and proper application of IPR is determined as the huge lapses of university research and innovation. Finally, this piece of research is the foremost document to apprise in the realm of univer-sity research and innovation in Nepali context. Therefore, more than a few limitations and delimitations in conducting research in representation, methodological usage, and application of theory are subject to be improved for the future research in this case.Por-ter's "Diamond Model of Innovation Competitiveness" and "Triple Helix Model" are applied to substance the trustworthiness of research in the scientific world. However, the findings of the research significantly contribute in the policy discourse, development, and implementation.Further, this research provides the insights for policy makers,pro-fessors,researchers,students,industrial leaders and government to frame the NIS in fu-ture.
