Thanks to the iconic influence of the Enlightenment Movement since modern times,“Enlightenment” came into human concepts and practices.But in fact,since the birth of mankind,“Enlightenment” has actually occurred in the entire process of human self-evolution and valuation,and has fully demonstrated the ontological significance of man as “human”.As a cause to make human “human”,education and “enlightenment” have substantial connections.Moreover,from the original meaning of its existence,education is the practice of “enlightenment” and inherently implies the value legitimacy of enlightenment into “human”.In education,enlightenment mainly refers to the “discovery”,guidance,and enrichment of individual knowledge,ideas,morality,and spirit.It is committed to the essential confirmation and value endowment of human beings as “human beings”,generating and enriching people's lives.It can be said that this process of enlightenment into "human being" followed the value premise and practice of “cultivating people” through education.As a result,“Enlightenment” not only constitutes practical content and mission of education,but also constitutes the human nature basis of education.Based on the basic rules of enlightenment as a “human being”,education is based on people's livelihood,rather than on the name of “human”.In terms of individuals becoming “human”,the value of education mainly revolves around the possibility of enlightenment intention and the development of human beings as revealed by the overall framework of “cultivating people”:(1)By shaping people's complete rationality,promote the renewal and accumulation of knowledge to enable people to have the courage to use reason;(2)assign value to “born with freedom” and actively break the “shadow” and “yoke” on human beings,so that people can not only exist freely,but also live freely,in order to realize the purpose of returning “human” to human beings;(3)advocate the spirit of criticism,reflection,and democracy,and encouraging bold reforms without constraint of “traditions”,it will help to shape “new people” and “new society”.The practice of education,which is based on the creation of “human beings”,is intrinsically consistent with the value proposition of modern enlightenment.It is also under the guidance of the value of modern enlightenment that education regards “human modernization” as its own practical topic,which not only makes people become “modern people”,but also objectively upgrades itself into a public practice promoting modernization of state and society.Since the Enlightenment,education has formed a kind of “human” spiritual character.It requires that all efforts be made for human happiness and freedom,and strive to create a value-based existence and aesthetic life based on human happiness and freedom.In the modern era,with the passing of the classical Enlightenment era,the enlightenment spirit of education is gradually disappearing,and the phenomenon of modern value alienation is highlighted.Human freedom and happiness are still an unfinished project of liberation.The practices of enlightenment into “human” need to be deepened:(1)Respond to the mission of “Continuous Enlightenment”,promote “self-enlightenment” of education,and actively seek the “independence” of education.This is the fundamental prerequisite for maintaining the inner quality of education and value practice;(2)Reconstruct the concept of “humanity” in education,actively pay attention to the transcendence,integrity,and generative nature of human development,shift from the “materialized” thinking to the “humanized” enlightening thinking,and transform in terms of objectives,processes,methods,and ethos,so as to effectively returning to the enlightenment of “cultivating” practices;(3)Reactivate people's “perceptual enlightenment”,consolidate the role of sensitivity as the basis for people's complete,comprehensive and free development,and clarify the collaboration of “perceptual enlightenment” and “rational enlightenment”.In a word,reshaping the spiritual character and possible space of educational enlightenment is fundamentally related to “how education can be called as ‘education'” and “what can people do to become “human beings' ”,otherwise,it “becoming human beings” is no better than a mere slogan.
