Each round of technological revolution will trigger a education revolution.As a fundamental social activity to promote the development of human society,education and learning keep innovating with the development of society.The emergence of text and school marks the arrival of the first education revolution in human history,and education becomes a planned and organized social activity.The emergence of papermaking and printing brought the second revolution in the history of human education,which caused that knowledge dissemination and sharing became more convenient.The third education revolution occurred in the transition period from agricultural society to industrial society,when the emergence of class teaching system promoted the development of large-scale education.The fourth time education revolution in human history took place in the transition period from industrial society to information society.The information technologies represented by computer and the internet are triggering the comprehensive reforms of current education system.Obvious changes have taken place in education contents,education methods,education systems,and education goals.The advent of internet era has profoundly changed the social structure,social relations,social production mode,lifestyle,and people's thinking mode.The entire education ecology has be recreated,information and knowledge changing,so learning becomes people's basic needs.In addition,China is in the period of social transformation,when we need to improve the quality of the population,solve problems about education fairness,and invigorate social innovative vitality.The unique advantages of the internet will help to solve the aforementioned problems.Therefore,to construct the learning society characterized by learning for all,lifelong learning,and comprehensive learning is the effective path to promoting the sustainable development of China,which is also the inevitable choice in the internet era.Based on the above analysis,this paper will study the construction of learning society in China in the macro background of social transformation.This paper is based on the social transformation theory,the network social theory,and educational conflict theory.In this paper,we will define the basic connotation of the learning society,clarify the thought origin and historical development of the learning society,explore the main progresses in western countries,and analyze the necessities and the possibilities ofconstructing the learning society in our country.At the same time,we will compare the main differences between the traditional teaching modes and the current teaching modes in the internet era,dialectically analyze the positive impacts and negative impacts of internet on the construction of learning society,and explore the effective ways for the construction of learning society in the internet era.In the introductory part of this thesis,we will firstly explain the social background and practical significance of this study,sum up the four-time education revolutions in the human history,and then analyze the theoretical and practical significance of this study based on China's contemporary development.Secondly,we will summarize the main progresses in the study of learning society through different discipline perspectives,such as pedagogy,sociology,management science,economics and political science.Thirdly,we will discriminate among three concepts — online education,online learning,and the virtual learning community,then we will define the main connotations of the internet and the learning society.At last,we will introduce the research ideas,research methods and possible innovations in this paper.The theory and practice of constructing the learning society has experienced a number of different development processes in China and Western countries.The educational thoughts of “No child left behind” in ancient China and the educational concepts of “liberal education” in ancient Greece are considered as the sprouts of constructing the learning society.But due to historical limitations,the construction of learning society has failed to achieve in ancient China and the West.The current construction of learning society has undergone several periods from beginning to exploring to developing.With the development of internet era,people's desire of seeking knowledge soars,and social development accelerates,so to construct the learning society becomes inevitable.Additionally,due to the development of the internet and information technologies,the rising of online learning,and national supports for constructing learning society,the construction of learning society will be facilitated.The internet has reshaped the education ecology.Compared with the traditional teaching modes,the teaching modes in the internet era change in many aspects.The main bodies in education have transformed from “monism” and “niche” into“dualism” and “massification”.The teaching contents have transformed from“limited” and “homogeneous” into “limitless” and “heterogeneous”.In addition,traditional teaching modes are characterized by “synchronous teaching” and “grade system”,but current teaching modes are characterized by “asynchronous teaching” and“non-graded system”.“Passive learning” is replaced by “active learning”,and the key point of education is no longer to impart knowledge but to foster information literacy.At last,educational purposes are not to “produce talents” but to be for the self-fulfillment and perfection of man.The inherent characteristics and function of the internet have positive influence on the construction of the learning society.Firstly,the development of network information technologies has increased people's leisure time,broken the limit of time and space,and helped realize educational fairness,which contributes to learning for all,lifelong learning,and comprehensive learning.Secondly,the internet contributes to the improvement of learning motivation,learning persistence,learning ability,learning efficiency,and learning ability of transformation.Thirdly,the internet contributes to achieving self-transcendence,improving mental models,building shared vision,promoting team learning and systematic thinking,which will help build the learning organization.Fourthly,the internet contributes to meeting the demands of diversified and personalized learning.At last,the internet contributes to promoting academic communication and research cooperation,the cultivation of innovative talents and thinking,and social innovations.At the same time,we can not ignore the negative influence of the internet on the construction of the learning society.Firstly,the “digital divide” will intensify the education inequality among regions,among classes,and among generations.Secondly,the phenomenon of “Information overload” will distract attention,waste learning time,increase the difficulty of identifying information,lower the quality of learning,lead to “information confusion phenomenon”,and lost learning goals.Thirdly,“fragmented learning” will weaken learners' ability of recognition and deep learning,make learners indulge in bad learning habits,and ultimately reduce the learning effect.Fourthly,“internet dependence” will encourage learning inert,inhibit the original ability,and increase network security threats.At last,“network anomie”will make learners misdirected easily by the bad information and culture on internet.So,the construction of the learning society needs to properly use the internet,which can be regarded as a double-edged sword.To construct the learning society in internet era needs a fair,healthy,green and safe internet environment.So wehave to break the barriers of the network,purify the network space,perfect the laws and regulations,and develop the latest internet technologies.Next,we have to improve the quality of online learning,create a high-level teaching platform,create high-quality online learning resources,improve the efficiency of the online teaching and learning,and constantly renovate teaching methods.Moreover,we have to strengthen the supervision and control over online teaching and learning,protect online education from the excessive interference of capital,and improve the standardization of online education.In the last chapter,the main conclusions of this study will be reviewed,and future research directions will be discussed.
