Dynamic Capabilities Of Project Logistics Integrator Based On Service Supply Chain

Over the past 10 years,Chinese enterprises have gone out to overseas markets to undertake engineering projects.An accelerating pace of the implementation of One Belt and One Road initiative will bring about an increasing number of overseas projects,thus resulting in a further expansion of project logistics,which is becoming a significant opportunity for domestic logistics enterprises to carry out overseas localization operation and enhance its internationalization.The project logistics features international end-to-end logistics,multifunctional integration and many value-added links,which originally is a medium and high-end international logistics service.However,with the fierce market competition and advancement of customers demand,project logistics enterprises which derive from international freight forwarders are suffering from a poor comprehensive service performance due to weak integrated abilities and apparent competence rigidity.Hence,in the light of an innovation driven society,how to achieve their Sustainable Competitive Advantage(SCA)has become an important research topic.This dissertation focuses on down-to-earth problems and put the continuous improvement of operational competence of the project logistics enterprises and their adaptation of the environment change as the main line.Firstly,the dissertation analyzes the constructs,evolution processes&mechanism,structure&features of Project Logistics Service Supply Chain(PLSSC)and its requirements on the Dynamic Capability(DC)for Project Logistics Service Integrator(PLSI)as core of PLSSC to manage PLSSC sustainably.Secondly,the connotation,characteristics,influencing factors and evolution mechanism of Dynamic Capabilities of PLSI are carefully studied.Thirdly,I clearly put forward the dimensions of Dynamic Capabilities of PLSI and measure the relations among these dimensions and test the relations between dimensions and PLSI’s service performance by empirical examples.Finally,the dissertation takes a leading logistics enterprise for example,probing into its strategies in the formation of PLSSC and Dynamic Capabilities.Through the research of this dissertation,the following conclusions are probably drawn:(1)PLSSC is an important tool for project logistics enterprises to enhance their integrated operational competence.Project logistics service ability is in the evolution process of transforming international freight forwarding grounded on the third-party logistics service mode to PLSSC mode,which is a self-organizing movement process based on the Brusselator model of dissipative structure.PLSSC is a service supply chain based on capability cooperation and coordination.For the sustainable operation of PLSSC and adapting to the requirement of space-time change of environment,PLSI,a core member of PLSSC,should strategically expand&revamp their operational competence and cultivate overseas entrepreneurial skills to form Dynamic Capabilities.(2)Dynamic Capability of PLSI means that PLSI is a strategical organization capability by integrating and reconfiguring its knowledge and other resources adapting to the environment.This capability is active,high-order,high-consumption and pioneering.Organizational learning,high-level cognition,organizational situation and social capital are the driving forces that form the Dynamic Capability of PLSI.Factors including business practices,learning practices,knowledge clarity and knowledge coding,and learning mechanisms including experiences accumulation,knowledge clarity and knowledge coding,guide the formation and evolution of Dynamic Capabilities of of PLSI.The Dynamic Capabilities of of PLSI is composed of environment sensing,organizational learning,network integration,and value creation.Each dimension contains several sub-dimensions.Through empirical research,it is concluded that Dynamic Capability can significantly improve market and innovation performance of PLSI,and organizational learning has strong correlation with the other three dimensions and indirectly affect the relations between the other three dimension and PLSI’s service performance.(4)The research outcome have a significant guidance for practice.Taking a Chinese leading project logistics company for case,this dissertation put forward strategies&suggestions on introducing PLSSC to improve its operational competences and exalting its dynamic capabilities on changing environment.
