The urban development and urbanization, which has entered a new era and has been the locomotive in promoting economic growth in Chinese cities, have become an important engine of China's modernization. But in general,China city construction is still in the traditional extensive mode of high factors input, high resource consumption, low economic density and low resource output rate. The characteristics of "high cost and low efficiency" are very significant in the management of resource utilization.Urban land intens ive use is an effective measure to overcome the bottleneck of land resources in the progress of urban development,in the context of urban construction land control and outward expansion of urban space. For the strategic task of transforming the economic development mode of China for a period of time, considering the influenc ing degree and factors, and convergence trend for urban utilization, the intensive use status of urban land in China provinces 2004-2015 from the perspective of spatial effect is studied,to analyze the changing characteristics and driving factors, and to put forward the effective strategy to improve. In order to enrich and improve the theory and method of land resources and land use management in China,it has important and with practical s ignificance. The research contents and results are summarized as following:(1)Measurement on urban land intensive use level.Starting from the layout and structure of the new urbanization, the vertical and horizontal ranking method is applied to measure the land intensive utilization level for 30 administrative regions of provincial level in China 2004-2015,to compare the differences in the intensive land use level and to test the space effect on the behavior of intensive utilization of urban land in China. The study results showed that in China the urban land intensive utilization level has signif icant regional differences. The eastern region is the high value zone;the central region is obvious ly catching up;and the western and northeastern regions are generally low.China urban intens ive land utilization level shows an increasing trend.Central,Western and northeastern regions have great improvement.Test results on spatial effect show that the urban land intensive utilization level in China has positive spatial autocorrelation significance.(2)Spatial econometric analys is on influencing factors.Based on the analysis of different factors on the level of urban land intensive use,and by constructing the spatial panel data econometric model, the factors affecting the urban land intens ive use are empir ically tested. The results showed that the land resource endowment and urbanization level have significant inhibitory effect on the level of city land intens ive use. However, industrial structure, investment in R& D and the level of economic development have obviously promoted the city land intensive utilization. In addition, human capital is positively related to the level of intensive use of urban land in China, but the effect is not significant.(3)Spatial convergence analysis.Citing the new classical economic growth theory, the change characteristics of the different levels of the urban land intensive utilization among the provincial cities of China are analyzed. Results on Wilson coefficient and Theil index bring out the equalizing development trend on the urban land intensive utilization in China.Differences among the regional tend to narrow.Major differences on the land utilization are from the differences among the groups in the country level.Spatial polarization index analysis shows that the spatial polar ization characteristics of urban land intensive use are significant and the degree of polarization is increasing.Spatial convergence analysis shows that in the provincial cities in China, the land intensive utilization level has the absolute convergence trend and conditional trend. The human capital and the level of economic development have significant promoting effects on the convergence level of city land intensive utilization, however, the industrial structure and the technical level in China has a significant inhibitory effect of convergence on the level of intensive land utilization. This provides an empirical reference for the development of differentiated land management measures.(4)Coordinated development analysis.By defining the feature of the coordinated development of intensive urban land utilization and ecological economy, based on the TOPSIS method, the coordinated measure model is constructed, and the spatial and temporal characteristics of the coordinated development level in 2004-2015 in China is analyzed.Research results show that the coordinated development level has the same characteristics of consistent level of intensive land utilization;the improvement of the urban land intens ive utilization status can bring the ecological benefits on city land utilization and the coordinated development between the two has a positive effect on improving the city's ecological environment. But coordinated development in the provincial level in China till has great room of improvement;the coordination between the intensive use of land and ecological economy development needs to be further strengthened.(5)Promotion strategy analysis.According to the test results from the econometric model, the corresponding strategies are put forward,to improve the level of land intensive utilization in city, respectively, from six aspects of the natural resources, industrial structure, city development, economic development level, human capital level,R & D investment level.
