Industry-university collaborative innovation is an important shortcut for Chinese enterprises to realize technological upgrading.However,it is perplexing that how to effectively organize the innovative cooperation between industry and university.Inappropriate selection of collaborative innovation mode could hinder the process of innovation and even lead to the breakdown of the cooperative relationship between industry and university.Therefore,the selection of an appropriate mode for industry-university collaborative innovation should be based on the particular features of the enterprise.This paper starts from the perspective of firms' technological capability,focusing on its influence on the selection of the mode of industry-university collaborative innovation and the internal mechanism that impacts the relationship.Firstly,this paper analyzes the structure of the firms' technological capability systematically.We discuss the structure of firms' technological capability,finding that technological capability contains basic technological capability and renewing technological capability and their substructure.Secondly,we build a game participated by firm and university,discussing the strategy of collaborative innovation under high-integrated mode of industry-university collaborative innovation and low-integrated mode of industry-university collaborative innovation.On this basis,this paper analyzes the impact of basic technological capability on the selection of the mode of industry-university collaborative innovation.Moreover,by building a multi-stage game model that incorporates a firm and a university,this paper studies the strategy of the participants in the process of initialization,knowledge sharing and innovation in both high-integrated and low-integrated mode of industry-university collaborative innovation.It has been found that both the basic and renewing technological capability have similar properties,which is:with the rise of basic and renewing technological capability,the gaps between firms' innovative performance under high-integrated and low-integrated mode of industry-university collaborative innovation will increase;both basic and renewing technological capability have positive effects on the selection of high-integrated mode of industry university collaborative innovation,and negative effects on the selection of low-integrated mode of industry university collaborative innovation.Besides,the existence of supportive policies helps to incentive the the selection of high-integrated mode of industry-university collaborative innovation rather than low-integrated mode of industry university collaborative innovation.The empirical study is based on firm-level survey data,we use various econometrical methods to examine the extent to which firms ' technological capability affects the selection of mode of industry-university collaborative innovation.The test results show that:firstly,both basic and renewing technological capability have positive effects on the selection of high-integrated mode of industry university collaborative innovation,and negative effects on the selection of low-integrated mode of industry-university collaborative innovation;secondly,the existence of supportive policies helps to incentive the the selection of high-integrated mode of industry university collaborative innovation;lastly,with the rise of basic technological capability and renewing technological capability,the firms' innovative performance will increase more under high-integrated mode of industry university collaborative innovation than under low-integrated mode of industry university collaborative innovation,implying the participation of high-integrated mode has positive effects on the development of Chinese industrial firms.
