Abstract/Summary:
For the past two decades, and especially the last five years, in the People's Republic of China there has been an increasing interest, among the key stakeholders such as the government, educational and business leaders, parents and students, and so forth, in the reform of the national educational system. Chinese graduates are often lamented for their general lack of creativity and hands-on skills, especially in comparison to their counterparts from Western educational systems. This situation is widely felt incompatible with China's economic growth in particular and the nation's overall development in general. There is an increasing demand for educational reform. While it is recognized that education determines the rejuvenation of the nation, the development of education hinges upon the quality of teachers. This dissertation, therefore, focuses on the reforms of teacher education in China by exploring the future(s) of curriculum reform for teacher education from scenario planning perspectives. The study primarily utilizes Delphi-based scenario planning research.
