Abstract/Summary:
This study used an inferential design that allowed the researcher to examine the relationship between the three dimensions of burnout (emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment) and four characteristics of high school teachers in a rural Arizona school district. High school teachers were surveyed from a convenience sample of two comprehensive high schools, one charter high school, and an alternative high school in the same rural school district. The Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey along with a five-item demographic questionnaire were used to collect data.;The findings indicated female teachers reported a higher level of emotional exhaustion than males. Additionally, teachers who participated in the American Heart Association's minimum aerobic exercise recommendations for moderate and vigorous aerobics experienced higher levels of personal accomplishment. Contrary to the literature, there was no significant difference between the three dimensions of burnout and marital status or years of teaching experience.
