Abstract/Summary:
This research sought to, first, identify the factor structure of the work ethic construct and, secondly, develop a current, practical, and psychometrically sound measure of work ethic that encompasses all of the identified dimensions. Using a university student sample, the product of these efforts was the development of the Multidimensional Work Ethic Profile (MWEP), a 65-item measure which assesses the 7 dimensions related to the work ethic construct. The MWEP provides reliable and valid measures of multiple dimensions underlying the work ethic construct. Further, results indicate that the measure demonstrates similar psychometric characteristics among Air Force enlisted personnel. Implications for the prediction of contextual job performance, training success, and tenure in the military are discussed.
