Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this exploratory study was to find and analyze the relationship between Management Commitment and Student Satisfaction for selected key processes in institutions of higher education. Also the differences, if any, for Student Satisfaction were analyzed by Level, Type, Responsibility of respondents, type of Process Improvement Plan, and the nature of Student Satisfaction Surveys as measured through the selected processes. A survey questionnaire was developed to measure the Management Commitment for the aggregation of scores on each process for: Constancy of Purpose, Guiding Coalition of faculty and administrators, Employee Involvement, Resource Allocation, and Communication with a corresponding level of Student Satisfaction for twenty-eight selected institutional processes. These processes were collapsed into six categories; such as Teaching/Learning, Enrollment Management, Cultural Enhancement Activities, Strategic Planning and Development, Quality of Student Life, and Community Service.; A total of 153 colleges and universities from 11 southern states under Commission on Colleges (COC) for Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) participated in the study. The data were analyzed for twelve---six main and six sub---hypotheses built on the premise of this study. The findings revealed a positive relationship between Management Commitment and Student Satisfaction for selected institutional processes. Some differences, as measured through the Management Commitment variables, were also found in Student Satisfaction between Two-year and Four-year institutions; as well as, between the institutions carrying Regular Plan and Occasional Plan of student surveys. The study includes twenty-two tables and seven figures.
