Abstract/Summary:
Assessing entry-level digital information literacy of incoming college freshmen is a case study that used a twenty-question, multiple choice survey administered to 1,184 of the 2,352 incoming freshmen at a state university. The answer data provided assessment information about the respondents' digital information literacy in the areas of their previous time and task patterns of Internet use, previous experiences with learning to use the Internet for academic research, competency to conduct an effective Internet search, and abilities to evaluate the academic reliability of a Web site. The study offers recommendations that can inform effective entry-level instructional design for digital information literacy education in collegiate settings.
