The perceived presence and importance of the Herzberg motivator -hygiene factors among Chicago Public School principal

Abstract/Summary:
This study was an investigation of 14 factors of Herzberg, Mausner, Peterson, and Capwell's motivation-hygiene theory to determine the degree to which these factors can be identified among Chicago Public School principals and to understand the attitudes of Chicago Public School principals toward their work.;The stated purposes of the study outlined four objectives, which were (1) to identify the job factors that may provide for satisfaction among Chicago Public School principals toward their work, (2) to compare the job factors that may provide for satisfaction for less experienced Chicago Public School principals to job factors that may provide for satisfaction for more experienced principals, (3) to compare the job factors that may provide satisfaction for male principals to the job factors that may provide satisfaction for female Chicago Public School principals, and (4) to compare the job factors that may provide satisfaction for Chicago Public School principals according to a predetermined select range of ages.;The study investigated a population of 578 principals from the Chicago public schools. A total of 215 principals, or 37.2%, responded to the questionnaire, which was intended to attain the essential data.;Findings and conclusions were presented. Recommendations were made.
