Abstract/Summary:
The problem. The purpose of this project is to develop a training manual that contains a comprehensive training program to teach the correct implementation of a conditioned reinforcement program in a milieu of functional analysis and individual behavior plans. Conditioned reinforcement programs called token economies may deteriorate in quality over time due to improper implementation. Inappropriate administration of token reinforces in a program-wide setting may interfere with specific individual behavioral plans. Considerable ambiguity exists in the understanding, training and usage of token economies making it difficult to achieve maximum therapeutic effects.; Method. This project reviews research and theories of behavior modification, curriculum based measurement, and curriculum basic assessment. Token economies and functional analysis are specifically examined.; Results. A four hour training program was developed that presents lecture material covering the general theory of behavior modifications, curriculum based measurement, curriculum based assessment, and the application and implementation principles of token economy, functional analysis, behavior contracts, and behavior plans. The workbook includes lecture notes, instruction for the presenter, practice vignettes, and sample forms. An evaluation for potential program presentation is included to assist facilities assessing this training for their needs. A post-evaluation is included to assist the author to further refine the training. Revised workbooks will be available from the author. Further research in the application of token economies within the milieu of mandated functional analysis and behavior plans in the state of California is recommended.
