Abstract/Summary:
The purposes of this study were to determine the levels of student user satisfaction with regard to college/university sports facilities and equipment in Taiwan, and to identify the factors contributing to these levels of satisfaction.;On the basis of the results and findings of this study, the following conclusions can be derived: (1) Overall, among the 40 sports facilities items included in the survey, 28 had satisfaction scores lower than 3, while only 12 facilities got scores higher than 3. This indicates that the ratio of those who answered "unsatisfied" to those who answered "neither satisfied nor unsatisfied" was about 3 to 1. None of the sports facilities had satisfaction scores that reached the "satisfied" or "very satisfied" levels. (2) Of the three sports equipment items, only the efficiency of sports equipment check-out procedures got a satisfaction score higher than three. In addition, college/university students were not satisfied with either the quantity or the quality of sports equipment. None of the sports equipment items had satisfaction scores that reached the "satisfied" or "very satisfied" levels. (3) Factors that influenced student user satisfaction with regard to different sports facilities and equipment variables included gender, age, year in school, sports versus non-sports member, living situation, family income, frequency of use, length of use, used with whom, number of people used with, and use of sports facilities off-campus versus on-campus. (4) Another important outcome was that the college/university sports administrators in Taiwan did not seem to provide students with enough information about what school sports facilities were available.;Five thousand five hundred eighty-five (5,585) undergraduate students from 50 colleges and universities which offer four-year undergraduate programs in Taiwan served as the subjects of this study. The research instrument "Survey of Student User Satisfaction with Regard to College/University Sports Facilities" was administered to the subjects. Standard descriptive statistical analyses and the chi-square test of association were used for data analysis.
