This paper empirically examines the contribution made by three broad factors: resources, teamwork and organizational routines in generating competitive performance. The study is conducted in the context of the National Football League. Results show that resources, in of themselves, explain less than 1% of the variance in competitive performance of individual NFL clubs. Effects of teamwork is more substantial at 10 to 11%. Coaches preferred organizational routines explain about 11 to 13% of the variance in club's competitive performance. |
