| A chemical design package allows the engineer to simulate the operation of common chemical processes on a computer. Presently, the engineer must construct an input file for the design package compiler, consisting of unit operation parameters, feed stream conditions, and connectivity information. Building the input file can be a time-consuming task. The objective of this work was to develop a graphical interface for the design package, allowing the engineer to draw the flowsheet with a CAD system, then transposing the flowsheet into an input file acceptable to the design package compiler. Two interfaces were constructed, one for the FLOWTRAN package, and another for the PROCESS design package. In both cases, the flowsheet is drawn with MEDUSA CAD. Information is abstracted from the flowsheet, and, via a series for FORTRAN programs, is molded into an input file. An algorithm, based on previous literature, is presented for developing an appropriate sequencing of the unit modules. |
