Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role and accomplishments of the Assembly of Community Arts Council of Oklahoma, Inc., a development organization and subsidiary of the State Arts Councils of Oklahoma. The Assembly of Community Arts Council of Oklahoma provides criteria for establishing and developing local arts and humanities councils in Oklahoma.;The investigation: (1) identified key aspects of assembly activities; (2) selected criteria by which these activities could be evaluated; (3) constructed a questionnaire for assimilating and reporting responses; and (4) conducted personal interviews with volunteers, officers, and directors of arts organizations. The population for this study consisted of twenty-eight arts and humanities councils in Oklahoma.;Chapters one through three provide a history of the arts movement, the mission of the Assembly of Community Arts Council of Oklahoma, and the relationship between the Assembly of Community Arts Council of Oklahoma, the State Arts Councils of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Foundation for the Humanities. The remaining chapters summarize the results of the study and examine current issues in art advocacy in "grassroots" communities: Cultural Diversity; Quality Arts; and Arts in Education.;The study affirmed the positive impact of the Oklahoma Local Arts Agencies, the State Arts Council and the Oklahoma Foundation for the Humanities. Tabulation of in-house data, questionnaire results, and personal interviews indicates that the Assembly of Community Arts Council of Oklahoma is successful in developing and providing quality programming and services for Local Arts Agencies.
