Abstract/Summary:
This study investigated the characteristics of three local arts agencies in order to help discern common patterns which suggest a comprehensive community arts education program. Through the documentation of three case studies careful analysis of these agencies helped to reveal their distinctive qualities.;Triangulation occurred through collecting data from web-based research, questionnaires, and telephone interviews. This was part of a multiple perspective process and based on the two main objectives of the research: (a) to differentiate certain characteristics and common patterns in their offerings in order to determine which factors make up a well-functioning, impactful arts education program at the city level and (b) to document each agency's arts offerings. Case study research included inquiry into what programs were being offered, how frequently they were used or attended, and what physical spaces were available (i.e., an art gallery and/or civic arts center).
