Abstract/Summary:
he purpose of this study was: (1) To develop a Cardiovascular Health Module, "HEART HEALTH", to acquaint Korean high school students with those cardiovascular disease risk factors which can be modified. (2) To evaluate the effectiveness of the program, particularly with respect to cardiovascular health knowledge, attitudes, and practice changes subsequent to the program's implementation.;The research design for the study was an adaptation of the Solomon Four Group design. Data Analysis consisted of a three-way analysis of variance (Group vs. Sex vs. Grade). Correlation analyses were also conducted among cardiovascular knowledge, cardiovascular attitude, and cardiovascular practice scores. The major findings of the study were: (1) Students exposed to the Heart Health program demonstrated significantly higher cardiovascular knowledge scores than those in the control group. (2) Students exposed to the Heart Health program had statistically significantly higher scores in cardiovascular attitude and practice tests than those in the control group. (3) In cardiovascular knowledge the pre-test/post-test control groups showed a significant difference by grade (.05 and.07 levels). The higher the grade, the higher the knowledge score. (4) "Pretesting" had NO significant effect on post-test. (5) There were positive correlations among knowledge, attitudes, and practices. In particular, the relationship between health knowledge and practices was stronger than the relationship between health attitudes and practices.;Conclusion. The "HEART HEALTH" project has the potential for contributing to cardiovascular health learning and cardiovascular health behavior change.;The subjects for this study were randomly selected from sixteen high schools in Korea (10th-12th grades). There were 240 subjects in the needs survey phase and 576 subjects in the experimental phase. The study employed a SELF-PACED METHOD which allowed subjects to work independently/at their own pace. Individual knowledge, attitude(s), and practice(s) were assessed via the needs survey. A Table of two-way Specifications utilizing the cognitive, affective, and psycho-motor domain facilitated test construction. Cronbach's...
