Abstract/Summary:
Trial-based functional analysis (TBFA) methodology, a variation to traditional FA, has become a viable option to assess problematic behaviors in more natural environments. The purpose of this study is to conduct a component analysis to analyze the individual effects of training procedures (i.e., didactic training, video modeling, and immediate feedback) used when training staff to conduct TBFA. Four staff members of an adult day program for individuals with developmental disabilities were trained to conduct TBFA. Results demonstrated that all the participants met mastery criterion during the training phase(s), and successfully conducted TBFA sessions with a client during the generalization phase. Immediate feedback with instructions was the most effective training component, while didactic training was not effective when used alone.;Keywords: Component analysis, immediate feedback, staff training, trial-based functional analysis.
