New energy vehicles(NEVs)development helps to alleviate the energy and environmental pressure,and promote the transition and upgrading of traditional automobile industry.With a series of national and local incentive policies,China has ranked the first in the NEV production and sales around the world since 2015.NEVs adoption in China is policy-driven,and it is essential to research on the influential mechanism of NEV market adoption under policy guidance.It will be beneficial to speeding up the promotion of strategic emerging industry and the implementation of energy conservation and emissions reduction,as well as accelerating the sustainable development of NEV industry in the new era.Based on relevant research at home and abroad,the dissertation analyzes the influences of incentive policy systems,macro socioeconomic factors and related internal and external factors on NEV adoption using both theoretical and empirical research.It helps to uncover the influence mechanism of economic and non-economic incentives on NEV market demand.The main contributions are summarized as follows.First,the dissertation builds a policy dependency mapping method.It proposes the NEV policy dependency systems with national,regional,provincial and municipal levels taking the Jing-Jin-Ji region as an example.It highlights the top-level design of NEV industry development and reveals the interaction between these incentive policies and their influences on NEV popularization and application.It is found that national policies are promulgated to guide local governments with three main aims: saving the traditional energy,reducing the air pollution and pushing the automobile industry advancement.Regional policies promote integrated development of NEV industry through coordinating action plans for provincial governments.Local policies shall be market-oriented to accomplish specific adoption goals.Chinese NEV policy systems are multi-objective and dynamic,and it is important to expand the adoption in the field of public services.There is unbalanced NEV growth among different regions.Second,the research demonstrates that socioeconomic factors,such as economic development,transportation,ecological condition,scientific and technological level,play an important role in the NEV adoption.The results show that the increase of GDP and express demand have a significant positive impact the NEV adoption.NEVs are not limited by municipal traffic restriction measures,which has a significant effect on promoting the market adoption.This study finds that the increase of industrial added value,highway passenger traffic and city's electricity consumption could inhibit the large-scale NEV application.The urban air quality and private vehicle ownership do not have significant effect on NEV adoption.Third,the license plate regulation policy has a significant positive impact on NEV purchase intention.It has become a key factor to speed up the market popularization besides financial subsidies.It is evidenced that consumers' understanding of NEV supporting policies,family annual income,battery capacity and cruise range have a significant positive influence on their purchase intention.However,the increase of family cars has a negative impact on their consumption intention.The results show that consumers are not sensitive to the operation cost,product appearance,inter space and charging time.The significant driving force to stimulate NEV market demand is that the application of NEV license plate is not limited by restriction rules on internal combustion engine vehicles.Fourth,the study discloses the influential mechanism of consumers' three NEV perceptions and behavioral motivation on purchase intention.The analysis indicates that consumers' perceived NEV environmental benefits,perceived economic benefits from incentive policies,and perceived risks are correlated with each other.They all have a significant impact on purchase intention by influencing individual attitudes.Prevention-focused consumers are more sensitive to the short life of NEV battery and the lack of charging convenience.Promotion-focused consumers concern more about NEV environmental advantages such as reducing exhaust emissions and alleviating urban pollution,and further arise more positive attitudes towards the NEV adoption.The dissertation presents both theoretical support and empirical basis for national and local governments to enhance the NEV industry development and achieve largescale NEV adoption as soon as possible.It also illustrates directions,principles and guiding strategies for enterprise to implement supporting policies scientifically and strengthen the NEV market competitiveness.
