With the development of Chinese society and the advancement of urbanization, the historical district, which preserve many cultural relics and local context and fully reflect the traditional living conditions, have gradually become the focus of people’s attention.Since the Economic Reform and open up,the reconstruction of historic district in China has gone through the transformation from the urban redevelopmen and demolition of old buildings and construction of antique buildings to the cognition and practice of small-scale,micro circulation and gradual organic renewal.Although the main mode and path of these work are developing, the lack of policy planning, laws and regulations and the disordered reproduction of commercial elements still lead to the disappearance of local culture, the weakening of group identity, and the homogenization of commercial development. In the past, the reconstruction of historical district in China mostly followed a dualistic cognition of "material-spirit";While focusing on the material form and spiritual outlook of the historical district,it ignores the practical, empirical and continuous social and humanistic connotations in the daily life of the district. As a kind of space for people to live and live in,historical district has the spatial structure attribute composed of material, spiritual and social dimensions.Under the background of contemporary urban renewal, the cultural construction of historical district is a comprehensive space production activity that runs through its space formation, space narrative and space consumption.First of all,the repair and protection of the external form and style of cultural relics and historic sites, the restoration of the narrative landscape such as the relic scenery, and the consumption activities with material as the carrier constitute the material space dimension in the cultural construction of historical district.Secondly, the cultural construction of spiritual space dimension is not only the maintenance and continuation of the emotional concept, collective identity, local customs and other abstract elements in the historical district, but also the contemporary reset of various humanistic narrative texts hidden in the historical district, and thus makes it consistent with the consumer demands of today’s public, such as aesthetics, nostalgia, entertainment, education and so on.Finally, the material and spiritual cultural construction work further converges in the social space dimension of historical district, and is reflected in the fusion and inheritance of living cultural heritage, the spatial narrative representation of social life state, and the spatial consumption based on experiential social participation. At the same time, the problems such as the weakening of public attributes, the decline of interpersonal relationship, the dissipation of emotional core and the trend of consumption elitism caused by the closed state of enclosure, the strong position of production logic, the retreat of traditional geographical kinship, and the large number of indigenous people moving out are essentially a phenomenon of spatial alienation. Therefore, the cultural construction of contemporary Chinese historical district from the perspective of space should be in a dialectical unity state. The related practical work should not only highlight the living state, human nature,multi-level and multi link authenticity connotation of the historical district in the integration of material, spiritual and social space dimensions; It is also necessary to promote mutual complementation and restriction in the interaction, game and coordination of political, economic, social and cultural discourse,so as to achieve a dynamic balance of spatial rights and interests.
