Research On The Decorative Art Of Tibetan Residential Buildings In The Context Of Religious Secularization

The Tibetan-style constructions are the material carrier of the Tibetan culture,with their location,modelling,material,structure,decorations charactrrized with geographical,ethnical and traditional features.Construction decorations,as an important visual element of Tibetan-style constructions,with their decorativeness,identification and efficacy,are one of the most typical features of Tibetan construcyions.West Sichuan Tibetan-style constructions,originated in the special geographical environment transitional from Qing-Tibet Plateau,between the Han and Tibetan cultures,formulates a special decorative culture,gradually evolved into a decorative system of traditional Tibetan constructions.Along with the social and economic development,and the influence of tourism-oriented policies,West Sichuan Tibetan area emerges a new style Tibetan folk house-a product of the times.The new Tibetan folk houses follows the aesthetic interest of the traditional Tibetan buddism arts and the secularization of monastery construction arts or the religionization of folk houses is the artistic foundation of the new Tibetan folk houses.The new folk houses have construction,cultural and market advantages and become the tourism sites promoted by government.The new folk houses have construction,cultural and market advantages and become the tourism sites promoted by government.Under this background,it is very necessary to summarize and sort out the decorative system of Tibetan constructions to protect and inherit the regional culture.The thesis focuses on the Tibetan folk houses in Ganzi and Aba Tibetan autonomous prefectures bordering Sichuan and Tibet and through on-field investigation,survey and visits to obtain the first hand data,from the perspective of designing arts,under the background of mingling of regilious and secular cultures,compares the decoration of monastery constructions and folk houses based on the former,appreciates the decorative systems of folk houses,analyzes their evolutionary mechanism,extracts their modular language and proposes the designing and guidance strategy to promote sustainable development.Based on the evolutionary background of Tibetan folk houses,the thesis summarizes their category and features,streamlines the development trends of Tibetan Buddhism monastery constructions in West China,extracts their modular language and analyzes the current situations of Tibetan monastery constructions under the influence of religious secularization;details the decoration categories and techniques of the West Sichuan Tibetan folk houses and categorizes their decoration techniques.Through analyses of large amount of graphic data,the thesis extracts the decorative modular language of the West Sichuan Tibetan folk houses,speculates the development trends of the decorative culture and proposes the renovation strategy of the West Sichuan Tibetan folk houses decorations.The innovative points include:1.From the scope of the research,the current Tibetan studies are scanty in decorative arts of the Tibetan folk houses from the perspective of art designing,especially in West Sichuan Tibetan area.This research enriches understanding in the region advantageous in culture and geography.2.From the object of research,the current studies lack in the internal decorations of Tibetan constructions.This thesis focuses on the external,internal and furnishing of the Tibetan constructions,especially on the evolution,old-new conflict and coalescence of the decorations of West Sichuan Tibetan folk houses in anticipation of filling up the research blanks.3.From the result of research,the thesis,with the help of the Alexander's Pattern language,systematically summarizes the decorative languages of decorations for the West Sichuan Tibetan folk houses,which is significant for guiding the re-furbishing and renovations of Tibetan constructions.The thesis is themed on searching for decoration forms embodying Tibetan culture and integrating the modern decorations for folk houses so as to promote the sustainable development of new style Tibetan folk houses.
