Studying the existence and circulation of literature works is a novel subject in the field of ancient Chinese literature research and can give a deeper understanding. Its theoretical basis is that a comprehensive literature activity consists of three parts:composition, circulation and acceptance. This paper is entitled "Existence of Tang Anthologies in Song Dynasty". The word "existence" refers to recording, editing and spreading of Tang literature in Song dynasty. Five aspects of it was investigated in this study. The first chapter is "Existence of Tang Literature in Song Dynasty". The historic background of Song dynasty is introduced, including book collection, typography, copying and circulation of Tang literature. The second chapter is "Existence of Tang Anthologies in Library Catalogue of Song. Four relatively intact and reliable library catalogs, i.e.,????,??????,?????and??????,were investigated and compared to unveil the collecting and editing status of Tang literature in Song. The third chapter is " Existence of Tang Anthologies in Hand-writing Time of and Printing Time". Considering the historical changes from Tang to Song, we tried to study the literary functions of different forms of books. With respect to Tang dynasty when hand written copies were the mainstream, we focused on the anthologies in Chinese Dunhuang manuscripts, Li Bai's???and????(Nara National Museum). In terms of Song dynasty, the time of block printing, we studied the collecting and editing of Tang anthologies and take Du Fu's anthology as an example. The fourth chapter is "Existence of Tang Anthologies in Literary Collections of Song". We studied the existence of Tang anthologies according to two literary collections of Song dynasty????and????Works in????are mainly manuscripts and non-standard editions, which makes its content often different from those edited in later times. But on the other hand, many works in Tang dynasty are exclusively kept in it????is a collection of folk-song-style poems. Standard editions of Tang anthologies are most probably the main source of these poems, as is demonstrated by the way Guo Maoqian, the anthologiest, classified Li Bai's poems. A comparison study showed that Li's works were mainly cited from standard editions, complete collections or special librettos. Finally, we studied the section????and found that large quantities of anonymous works were from poem collections or librettos still circulated at the time. The fifth chapter is " Existence of Tang Anthologies in Chinese cultural circle in East Asia". We studied poetry collections spread in??????,???????,????.Study on Tang works in these books revealed the circulation status of Tang anthologies in Han cultural circle in East Asia. It can be concluded that these Tang works, after spread to??,were appreciated and simulated by means of selecting, noting and simulating. Some of these works are now hard to be found in China but still exit in a special way in??This is also a great presentation of Han culture in East Asia.In addition, as an appendix to the paper, a chronology is designed, which includes a series of activities, such as collection, editing, annotation, printing of Tang anthologies in Song dynasty. This paper tried to study the inter-age spread and performance of literature in a new perspective, that is, the bearing body of literature-anthology. It abandoned the previous method of history of acceptance and history of spread but carefully studied how Tang literature "survived" in Song literature in a broader cultural space, including the publication, catalog and editing, etc. The transition from Tang to Song was not only a dynasty change but an evolution from hand writing to printing. This was fully recognized in our study and the culture functions of Tang anthology in different ages were identified. In addition, the paper extended the study scope and investigated the impact of the Tang literature on overseas Han literature in Song dynasty.
