Ye Xiaogang(1955——),a contemporary Chinese composer of international music,is an outstanding representative of “The Fifth Generation of Chinese Composers”.As the iconic character of "trendy music" in the 1980 s,has has still been the leading talent at the peak of creation,whose music creation range is very extensive involving numerous different subjects and genres(symphony,opera,dance drama,orchestral and chamber music,as well as film and television related music,etc.).The work with the theme of Tibet has very important status and special significance in the creation of Ye Xiaogang,who called it as “Tibet Series” by himself.In terms of his important works,Horizon(1985)and Twilight of Himalaya(2013)are the two typical orchestral works of this series.In this thesis,it will carry out the text analysis on these two orchestral works with the time span of nearly 30 years from many aspects.In line with the composer's creative thinking and techniques towards works,the comprehensive,systematic and in-depth research is carried out from composition techniques,which cover pitch organization,music structure,sound and timbre composition,creative style,music connotation and so on.By virtue of the creative track and achievements of Ye Xiaogang that is reflected in the two works,some provide reference can be provided for modern music creation and research in our country,so as to find a new path to make Chinese music move towards the world.The whole thesis includes the three parts of introduction,main body and conclusion.In the introduction part,it firstly explores the context of Ye Xiaogang's music creation,that is,the trendy music and its historical role in the development of modern and contemporary Chinese music creation.Meanwhile,it makes summary on the music creation process of Ye Xiaogang and his fruitful achievements.After that,it makes interpretation on the connection of works with Tibetan themes in religion,culture and art.Finally,it summarizes the related research literature about the music creation of Ye Xiaogang.In the part of main body,it covers three chapters,which carries out the analysis on the two works from the horizontal pitch organization,vertical pitch structure,tonal organization,polyphonic technique,color composition of orchestral orchestration,genres and curved structure,and then makes detailed discussion.In the part of the conclusion,it makes summary and overall evaluation on the creative style and aesthetic thought of the two works,as well as the key characteristics,and technical concepts in the creation of works,as well as their role and significance in Ye Xiaogang's works and even in the creation of Chinese modern and contemporary music.The topic studied in this thesis has far-reaching and extensive significance to the research on Chinese contemporary music theory and the creation of Chinese contemporary music,which hopes that some reference can be provided for the construction,development and teaching research of Chinese composition and composition technology theory.
