Hui-Mo,an ethnic group migrating from the eastern and northern Central Plains to the central and southern parts of the Northeast and the Korea in ancient times, together with Donghu,Sushen and Han,constitutes the four major ethnic groups in northeastern China.Although Hui and Mo are sometimes mixed in ancient literatures, they are actually two different ethnic groups before Qin and Han dynasties, and there are great differences in lifestyles. The process of migration and integration of Hui and Mo can be clearly discovered through literature review,so as to understand the development and change of all ethnic groups in the Northeast. This paper, focusing on a variety of characters and events of “Hui” and “Mo” in historical literatures, conduct a textual research on migration, development, and integration of the ancient northeast minority – Hui Mo.This paper mainly contains seven sections:In Section One and Two,the researcher firstly analyzes various records of “Hui” and “Mo” in historical literatures respectively, and clarify the evolution process of “Hui” and “Mo” appearing in literatures alone and jointly.Secondly, taking the ancient literature such as <The Book of Songs · Han Yi> as research subject, this paper discriminates the two ethnic groups when they appeared and used separately or jointly in some literatures. Finally,in this section, this paper analyzes the habitats and early migration of Hui and Mo respectively. In the third section, based on <Yi Zhou Shu-Wang Hui Jie>,the researcher analyzes the correlation between “Dong Yi” and “Dong Beiyi”(ethnic groups who came to the Central Plains to pay tribute at the time of Cheng Zhou Conference)and Hui and Mo at the same time. The analysis of reasons why Dong Yi and Dong Beiyi are mixed with Hui Mo at this time in historical literatures are represented in this section. In particular, why Ji Shi Chosong(ancient Chosong)did not appear in Chengzhou Conference,as well as the relationship between people in Hui,Mo and ancient Chosong are also be discussed.Section Four and Five involves a textual research on Hui and Mo country in <Shan-Hai Jing>.Firstly, the location of Hui Mo country, its relationship with the ancient Korea and its socio-economic situation are researched in this paper. Then, the situation of Canghai Prefecture and conditions of human existence of Hui People in Lelang Prefecture in Korea are studied through the unearthed seals. In Section Six,the researcher focus on the eastward migration process of Mo people and their integration with Hui by analyzing the formation of common language as well as establishment of agricultural production mode of Hui Mo in the Northeast. This proves that the Han Dynasty's effective management on the Northeast ethnic groups represented by Hui Mo,as well as the close political connection between Hui Mo and administrative organization in the Northeast frontier of Central Plains Dynasty. The seventh section proves that the Korean term – “Mo He”,is an incorrect marker of “Hui Mo” in most cases based on the textual research on <History of Three Kingdoms>.In addition, with the rise of Gaogouli and Bohai, the integration of Hui Mo ethnic group is accelerated.Although a small number of Hui Mo people have existed until the Liao Dynasty,it finally died out after Sheng Nvzhen migrating down to the South, and also because of its own weakness in population.
