Beijing is the capital of the Ming Dynasty and the hub of the intersection of eastern and Western cultures in the Central Plains.Fahai Temple is located in the western suburb of Beijing. It is a temple with royal background. It was built in the pre and mid Ming period when Buddhism was popular. It has important research value in the history of Buddhism and art.Fahai Temple is famous for its existing murals of the Ming Dynasty. The murals present a rich picture of the court culture of the Ming Dynasty, the art legacy of the song and Yuan Dynasties, the cultural exchange between Han and Tibet, the cultural exchange between China and foreign countries, and the integration of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism.Among them, the images of the twenty heavens in the picture of emperor Shi fan Tian worshiping Buddha on the north wall of the main hall contain typical court artistic characteristics of the Ming Dynasty, paying attention to realism, narration, politics and so on;The gorgeous clothes, rich decorative patterns, wreaths and foreign beasts in the picture are also the epitome of the material life changes caused by the maritime and land Silk Road trade in the Ming Dynasty; In character modeling, lines and layout,we can see the strong artistic legacy of the song and Yuan Dynasties; The images of the twenty heavens of Fahai Temple reflect the characteristics of painting art in the middle of the Ming Dynasty in content and form.Fahai Temple's painting of emperor,Buddhism and Buddha worship records that the painting art of the Ming Dynasty was influenced by a variety of ideologies. It can show the powerful politics, economy and art of the Ming Dynasty,as well as the belief and enthusiasm of the Ming Dynasty from the court to the bureaucrats and the people for Buddhism.Among them, there are obvious differences between the images of the twenty heavens and other images in the history of the previous generation. There are profound historical and cultural causes behind the image transformation. In addition to irresistible natural factors and foreign cultural input, the special political forms, religious policies, national culture and inheritance traditions of the court of the Ming Dynasty have had an impact on the images of the heavens in the murals of Fahai Temple,It provides space for the development of a variety of artistic elements. At the same time of multi-cultural parallelism,Confucianism and Taoist culture have penetrated for thousands of years, and finally formed the image art of the heavens in Fahai Temple.Images can "prove history" and "supplement history".The image of the twenty heavens in the murals of Fahai Temple is in the turning point period of the first and middle of the Ming Dynasty. It inherits the excellent tradition of the orthodox image of the twenty heavens of Buddhism, and is also a classic that makes the Buddhist art completely sinicized, and has the artistic status of inheriting from the top to the bottom. The development context of various artistic elements from introduction to decline is displayed on the murals of Fahai Temple, which makes its mural art produced under the collision of various ideas in the Ming Dynasty become irreplaceable works, restores the historical style of mural art in the Ming Dynasty, and reproduces the gorgeous artistic civilization lost in the long history.
