In recent years,China has been working hard to improve the competitiveness of individual and overall higher vocational colleges.Whether it is the plan implemented since 2006 for the construction of the National Demonstrative Vocational College,or the plan launched in 2018 to construct high-level vocational colleges and professional construction with Chinese characteristics, all of them promote the construction of strong competitiveness of higher vocational colleges with strong national strategic behavior. In practice research,it has also been found that improving the competitiveness of the college itself and solving many problems exposed in the evaluation of third-party competitiveness are also the pursuit and vision of both presidents and faculty in many higher schools. Therefore, the evaluation of competitiveness of higher vocational colleges also reveals the experience and laws of the development of higher vocational colleges. The competitiveness of higher vocational colleges presents the ability of higher vocational colleges to grow and develop in a changing environment at home and abroad,as well as their ability to contribute to economic development and social progress. The competitiveness of higher vocational colleges is mainly reflected in such aspects as richness of resources, school scale, teaching quality, scientific research level, faculty guarantee, funding standards, employment and social reputation. It is a multi-dimensional and multi-level concept of value. This paper firstly analyzes the theory support of exogenous comparative advantage theory, endogenous comparative advantage theory and competitive advantage theory for the competitiveness of higher vocational colleges.Based on the Berlin principle, this paper comprehensively examines the relevant evaluation index system of school competitiveness at home and abroad over the years, and puts forward the basic principles of evaluation of competitiveness of higher vocational colleges. This paper attempts to establish a diamond model for evaluating the competitiveness of higher vocational colleges, which consists of four main factors.Among them, the main factors are scale, quality, guarantee and reputation..The main body of this paper is to select the higher vocational colleges in Z Province for empirical analysis. The paper displays and analyzes the status, advantages and disadvantages of the competitiveness of higher vocational colleges in a special and comprehensive manner. The study found that the differences in competitiveness of scale and competitiveness of guarantee among higher vocational colleges in the sample area tend to be small, but the competitiveness of quality is uneven. On a basis of this, this paper puts forward suggestions for improving the competitiveness of higher vocational colleges:Firstly,to build a cooperative and communicative mechanism among higher vocational colleges so that "first excellent"can drive "post-excellent";Secondly,to promote the establishment of communication bridge between higher vocational colleges and interest partners to strengthen school-enterprise cooperation and to carry out innovative integration of production and education;Thirdly,to strengthen the quality construction of faculties in higher vocational colleges;Fourthly,to improve teaching quality;Fifthly,to rationally set specialties oriented by social demand;Sixthly,to establish a community of destiny, focusing on the "bringing in" and "going out" of resources and modes.
