Research On The Effect Of Export Technology Complexity On The High-Quality Economic Development

The Chinese economy is in a critical period of transition from a high-speed growth stage to a high-quality development stage.However,the complex world economic situation,trade friction between China and the United States and the new crown pneumonia epidemic have hindered the high-quality development of Chinese economy.President Xi Jinping proposed to build a new development pattern of domestic and international "dual cycles"with a domestic cycle as the mainstay to cope with the severe international situation.Dominance of the domestic economic cycle does not mean that the international economic cycle is no longer emphasized,and the economy is beginning to involute.While increasing the volume of domestic economic circulation,we should continue to implement the policy of opening to the outside world,give full play to the important role of export trade in economic development,and actively improve the technical content of export commodities.The complexity of export technology is an indicator to measure the technological content of export commodities.Enhancing the complexity of export technology is to promote the process of high-quality economic development from the international economic cycle level.Therefore,exploring the mechanism of export technology complexity on the level of high-quality economic development has important theoretical and practical significance.Through researching existing related literatures,the following shortcomings are found:Firstly,the measurements of high-quality economic development are mostly aimed at China,and the issues of high-quality economic development have not been raised to the"world" or"international" perspective,and the established indicator systems for high-quality economic development are merely complete.Secondly,researchers only studied the relationship between the complexity of export technology and economic growth,innovative development or coordinated development and other high-quality economic development subsystems.These relationships cannot represent the entire content of the comprehensive index of high-quality economic development.There is a lack of systematic research on the correlation between the complexity of export technology and the comprehensive index of high-quality economic development.Based on the above content,this study first used data from the World Bank WDI database to measure the economic high-quality development index of 99 countries from 2000 to 2017.Then the data from the UN Comtrade Database was used to measure the technical complexity of the export of goods and services.Finally,based on the important role of the technology content of export products in achieving high-quality development of the world economy and improving global governance,this study quantifies the direct,indirect and non-linear impact of the technological complexity of export of goods trade and service trade on the index of high-quality economic development.This thesis is divided into nine chapters:Chapter 1 introduces the research background,research significance,research content,research methods,research framework,innovations and shortcomings of this thesis.Chapter 2 discusses the research progress of export technology complexity and high-quality economic development,focusing on three aspects:research on high-quality economic development,research on the relationship between export technology complexity and economic growth,and research on the relationships between export technology complexity and high economic quality development.Chapter 3 systematically expounds the influence path of export technology complexity on high-quality economic development from three aspects:direct,indirect and nonlinear.Propose corresponding theoretical hypotheses to lay a theoretical foundation for the test of influence effects.Chapter 4 constructs,measures and internationally compares the high-quality economic development indexes of 99 countries from 2000 to 2017.Chapter 5 measures and internationally compares the technical complexity of exports of goods and services in 99 countries from 2000 to 2017.Chapter 6 uses fixed effects and differential GMM estimation methods to investigate the direct impact of export technology complexity on high-quality economic development,and heterogeneity is analyzed from the perspectives of different products,countries and periods.The 7th chapter constructs the mediation effect model,and examines the indirect influence effect of the complexity of export technology on the high-quality economic development from the three aspects of technology level,human capital and trade competitiveness.Chapter 8 uses the panel threshold regression method to test the non-linear effect of the complexity of export technology on the high-quality economic development and the difference of this effect among different countries.Chapter 9 summarizes the research conclusions of the whole dissertation and puts forward corresponding policy recommendations based on the core research conclusions.The main viewpoints and conclusions drawn from the research include the following aspects:Firstly,this dissertation discusses the high-quality economic development status of 99 countries.The index of high-quality economic development fluctuates with the changes of the world economic situation.As the supporting role of innovative development and shared development for high-quality economic development is gradually increasing,the trend of high-quality development of Chinese economy is on the rise.However,what does not match is that China's coordinated development,green development and open development are obviously lagging behind.Secondly,fixed effect and differential GMM methods are used to empirically study the direct impact of the technical complexity of goods(services)exports on the quality of economic development.From the results of the total sample,the effect of technical complexity of service trade export is stronger than that of goods trade export.From the perspective of national development degrees,the technical complexity of goods trade exports has a greater effect on the promotion of the high-quality economic development index of developed countries than that of developing countries,while the technical complexity of service trade exports is the opposite.In terms of different periods,the technical complexity of the export of goods(services)after the financial crisis has a restraining effect on the level of high-quality economic development.The indirect influence of the technical complexity of goods(services)export on the quality development of economy is studied by using the mediating effect model.The technical complexity of the export of goods trade can affect the high-quality economic development through technical level,human capital and trade competitiveness,among which human capital has the greatest impact.The technical complexity of service trade exports mainly affects high-quality economic development through human capital.Finally,the panel threshold regression model is used to empirically study the non-linear impact of the technical complexity of the export of goods(services)on the high-quality economic development.The technical complexity of the export of goods(services)has a significant positive non-linear effect on the high-quality economic development under the influence of the economic growth threshold.The export technical complexity of goods(services)trade has a u-shaped nonlinear effect from negative to positive on the high-quality economic development under the effect of the threshold of trade freedom.The technical complexity of the export of goods(services)has a significant positive non-linear effect on the high-quality economic development under the influence of the threshold of property rights protection.This nonlinear effect differs between developed and developing countries.The main innovations of this dissertation are as follows:Firstly,on the basis of the"Five Development Concepts"--innovation,coordination,green,openness and sharing,stable development indicators are added to build an evaluation system of high-quality economic development indicators,so as to extend the connotation of high-quality economic development and make it more systematic and comprehensive.Secondly,this dissertation discusses the mechanism,path and effect of export technology complexity on high-quality economic development,which provides a theoretical basis for related research in this field.Thirdly,based on fixed effects and differential GMM estimation methods,the direct impact of export technology complexity on high-quality economic development is investigated and the heterogeneity is carried out by different product categories,countries and time periods,which deepens the understanding of the impact of export technology complexity on high-quality economic development.Fourthly,based on the mediating effect model,the indirect effects of technology level,human capital and trade competitiveness on export technology complexity and high-quality economic development were investigated,which provided important theoretical findings and empirical evidence for the research fields of export technology complexity and high-quality economic development.Fifthly,based on the panel threshold regression model,this dissertation examines the non-linear influence and its restraint mechanism of the complexity of export technology on the high-quality economic development under the effects of economic growth,trade freedom and property rights protection.The heterogeneity between developed and developing countries is analyzed,which provides a reference for the decision making of how to improve the quality of economic development under the new pattern of double-cycle national development.
