China's innovation and entrepreneurship are tending to a stage of high-quality development.The government actively promotes the upgraded version of innovation and entrepreneurship throughout the country to bring opportunities and convenience to new ventures.At the same time it also requires new ventures to be driven by innovation and stand out in the rapidly escalating market demand and fierce market competition to achieve rapid growth.However,not all the new ventures can seize opportunities in time.Sudden technological innovations and industry changes often overwhelm new ventures.In the complex and changing competitive environment in the new era,it has become increasingly difficult for new ventures to use information asymmetry to create a competitive advantage,and the availability and accuracy of information obtained in advance are gradually failing.It is becoming more and more difficult for enterprises to maintain sustainable competitive advantages under the traditional strategic logic.Instead,it is in the form of strategic mutations,through flexible and rapid strategic response to emergencies encountered to obtain instantaneous competitive advantages and rapid growth.So,how can new ventures achieve“curve overtaking” in the rapidly changing competitive landscape.Exploring the sources and causes of the rapid growth of new ventures has become a key issue of common concern in the academic and business circles.By observing successful entrepreneurial cases,it is found that "improvisation" is a behavioral phenomenon that entrepreneurs often adopt in the process of creating new businesses.Entrepreneurship improvisation can bridge the gap between existing plans and emergencies,creatively integrate planning and execution,and respond more effectively to emergent opportunities and threats.The particularity of the growth of new ventures also requires entrepreneurs to break the traditional thinking of "order" and "control" of organization and management,and improve the agility of the team through improvisation ability,so as to seize potential opportunities to achieve excellent performance.However,there are still controversies about whether improvisation can bring positive results to the organization,especially in the context of entrepreneurship.At present,the research on the mechanism of entrepreneurial improvisation and new enterprise performance is very scarce,which raises the question of how to define and manage entrepreneurial improvisation and how to open the black box between entrepreneurial improvisation and enterprise performance.In an increasingly fuzzy and uncertain environment,organizations need to maintain a balanced management culture.This culture requires not only to maintain the strength of existing strategies,but also to innovate in accordance with changes to avoid extremes.Based on organizational duality theory,On the one hand,Ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation requires refining and piecing together the idle and available resources to break through resource constraints and promote the development of opportunities.On the other hand,it must search for potentially useful new resources and create new value propositions.Ambidextrousl entrepreneurial impromptu improvisation is a strategic behavior with both exploitation and exploration behavior characteristics.Entrepreneurs are required not only to maintain improvisational synergy,but also to handle the ambidextrous balance between the two behavior.In fact,entrepreneurial improvisation is not a random "brain-head" decision,but a bounded rational decision made by entrepreneurs based on their existing cognition due to changes in circumstances.It also has tentative characteristics and needs to be continuously revised and perfected during execution,this constitutes a key learning event in the entrepreneurial process,and the entrepreneurial team gains knowledge in impromptu practice.At the same time,Dual entrepreneurial improvisation requires companies to make adjustments to the use and efficiency of production resources and other organizational elements within a limited time,so as to promote the improvement of the level of corporate strategic flexibility.New ventures with strong ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation capabilities have better performance in entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility.The collective efficacy of the entrepreneurial team reflects the team members' mutual understanding and trust in the field of expertise to promote the entrepreneurial team to complete the new and complex task requirements brought by the ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation,Overcoming the time and task pressure caused by improvisation,it is a good way for new enterprises to carry out entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility,and realize the interaction of entrepreneurial improvisation,entrepreneurial learning,strategic flexibility and new venture performance in a ambidextrous balance.Therefore,this research is based on China's transitional economic situation,taking organizational ambidexterity as the starting point,and deeply explores the mechanism of ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation for entrepreneurial learning,strategic flexibility and new entrepreneurial performance.Deeply explore the mechanism of collective efficacy between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and entrepreneurial learning,strategic flexibility and new venture performance.Specifically,this research focuses on the following four aspects: First,whether and how ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation affects the performance of new ventures;Second,what role does entrepreneurial learning play in the process of ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation impact on the performance of new ventures? Third,what role does strategic flexibility play in the process of ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation affecting the performance of new ventures? What is the relationship between strategic flexibility and entrepreneurial learning? How does this relationship affect the conversion of ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation to new venture performance;Fourth,what is the role of collective efficacy on the relationship between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation,entrepreneurial learning,and strategic flexibility? What role does collective efficacy play on the effectiveness of entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility?In order to explore the mentioned problems,this research has preliminarily clarified the relationship between various variables through multiple case comparative analysis,and constructed the theoretical framework of this article.In the research design,this study chose to obtain data on key variables and control variables through questionnaire surveys.Through questionnaire surveys,new ventures in China were selected as the research objects,and a two-stage questionnaire survey was carried out to obtain data on key variables and control variables.Using multiple regression and Bootstrap analysis methods to test the hypothesis,the research conclusions are as follows: First,ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation has a significant positive impact on the performance of new ventures;Second,it finds the mediating role of entrepreneurial learning.Ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation has a significant positive effect on entrepreneurial learning,Entrepreneurial learning and its four dimensions have a significant positive effect on the new ventures performance.Entrepreneurship learning plays a partially intermediary role between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and new venture performance;Third,it also finds the mediating role of strategic flexibility.Ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation has a significant positive effect on strategic flexibility.Strategic flexibility and its two dimensions have a significant positive effect on the new ventures performance.Strategic flexibility plays a part of the mediating role between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and new venture performance;Fourth,it examines the chain mediate effects of entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility.Entrepreneurial learning has a significant positive effect on strategic flexibility.Entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility have a complete mediating role and a chain mediating role between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and new venture performance;Fifth,it examines positive moderating effect of collective efficacy.Collective efficacy and its three dimensions have a significant positive moderating effect on the relationship between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and entrepreneurial learning.At the same time,collective efficacy has a significant positive moderating effect on the relationship between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and strategic flexibility.Among them,collective efficacy and its dimensions,leadership beliefs and internal joint beliefs,positively moderate the relationship between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and strategic flexibility,but the moderate of external resource beliefs is not significant;Sixth,it examines mediating role of moderation is tested.Collective efficacy positively moderates the indirect effects of ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation on the performance of new ventures through entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility.The theoretical contributions and innovations of the research are mainly reflected in the following three aspects: First,this article examines the impact of entrepreneurial improvisation on the new venture performance from a ambidextrous perspective,interprets the connotative features and operating logic of entrepreneurial improvisation by comparing multiple cases,and emphasizes that entrepreneurial improvisation has tentative and subjective positive attributes.realize the synergy and balance between the action paradoxes and use quantitative methods to test the impact of ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation on the new ventures performance.It also verifies the effectiveness of ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation as a whole construct,deepens the understanding of the previous research viewpoints that "improvement is inherently not good or bad",makes up for the lack of empirical research on entrepreneurial improvisation,and provides references for future research on entrepreneurial improvisation.Second,this research reveals the intermediary and chain intermediary role of entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation and new venture performance,opening up the "black box" from ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation to new venture performance and expanding the realization path of new venture performance,making up for the shortcomings of previous research on entrepreneurial improvisation attention and provides new ideas for new venture performance.Third,this research discards the usual use of general and broad external environmental characteristics as contingency factors for the performance of new ventures.Instead,it chooses to start from the collective efficacy of the entrepreneurial team,revealing the moderating effect of collective efficacy in the relationship between ambidextrous entrepreneurial improvisation,entrepreneurial learning,strategic flexibility and the mediating role of entrepreneurial learning and strategic flexibility.The conclusions of this study are helpful for entrepreneurial leaders to better respond to and grasp the unexpected events brought about by the uncertain environment in entrepreneurial growth.It also have important reference value for improving the quality of entrepreneurial activities and shaping the entrepreneurial strategy of new ventures in the new era.
