The development of digital economy has opened a new chapter for human production and life.Digital technology changes such as cloud computing,big data analysis,smart city and smart life are not only becoming the main theme of people's life,but also setting off a new wave of innovation and entrepreneurship.In the era of digital economy,digitalization reconstructs the basic elements of entrepreneurship.The digital empowerment of enterprises by digital technology enriches the connotation structure of entrepreneurship,reconstructs the process of entrepreneurial opportunity utilization,resource acquisition and traditional business logic(Liu et al.,2020).The form of information and other materials is gradually transformed into the form of data,which promotes the rapid transmission and effective sharing of information among market entities and multiple entrepreneurial entities(Stiglitz,2002).The boundary between traditional entrepreneurial process and outcome is gradually blurred under the influence of digital technology(Nambisan,2017;Yu et al.,2018).Although the development of digital technology has brought more entrepreneurial opportunities and new digital opportunities,it has also limited or even subverted the development of existing mature business models,which requires new ventures to constantly adjust and innovate their business models according to new demands and new markets(Ghezzi and Cavallo,2020;Zhu et al.,2020).For new ventures,because of their own "new weakness",new ventures need to rely more on digital capability to share information and complementary assets with other entrepreneurial entities in the value network through digital platform,so as to realize the design of a systematic new business model(Balocco et al.,2019).Digital capability is particularly important for the survival and development of new ventures(Velu and Jacob,2016).However,the existing research on the digital capability of new ventures is still relatively scarce(Khin and Ho,2019),and scholars have no agreement on the concept and connotation of digital capability.The research on digital capability has not been paid enough attention in the academic circle.How digital capability affect firms' innovation activities in the digital environment and entrepreneurial context has not been fully discussed and answered.In addition,in entrepreneurial practice,it is often seen for new ventures to build disruptive business model innovation based on strong digital capability and lead to the whole industry reform.However,there is still a lack of clear answers to the key issues such as the impact mode and path mechanism of digital capability on business model innovation.Therefore,the impact mechanism of digital capability on business model innovation of new ventures is an innovative and challenging frontier scientific issue,which has huge research space and value.Therefore,on the basis of sorting out the connotation,characteristics and relevant research of digital capability,this study explores how new ventures can use digital capability to effectively promote business model innovation,which not only helps to further clarify the theoretical research basis of digital capability,but also helps to reveal the impact mechanism between digital capability and business model innovation,and enriches theoretical research on digital capability and business model innovation.Although digital capability can actively promote business model innovation,the path mechanism of the relationship between them still needs to be further explored.How new ventures apply digital capability to promote the complex interaction between digital opportunities and resources has a profound impact on the relationship between digital capability and business model innovation(Haynie et al.,2009).The rapid changes in the digital environment require new ventures to discover digital opportunities and obtain information based on their systematic digital capability,a better understanding of user requirements,and interact with other entrepreneurial entities to build a resource pool and jointly create more digital opportunities.Through the complex interaction between digital opportunities and resources across organizational boundaries,new ventures are encouraged to innovate and design more distinctive business models(Tan et al.,2015).Therefore,digital opportunity discovery and digital opportunity creation may play a key role in the relationship between digital capability and business model innovation.In addition,entrepreneurs' entrepreneurial passion and effectuation also have an important impact on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of business model innovation(Murnieks et al.,2014).However,the existing research has not been able to deeply reveal the path mechanism and boundary conditions of digital capability on business model innovation.Based on such condition,this study integrates dynamic capability theory,entrepreneurial opportunity theory and innovation theory to study the driving effect of digital capability on business model innovation,and regard the relationship between the two as the main line of model to explore the influence mechanism.Therefore,in order to reveal the direct effect of digital capability on business model innovation,and the mediating effect of digital opportunity discovery and digital opportunity creation,and the moderating effect of entrepreneurial passion and effectuation,this paper constructs a relational model among digital capability,digital opportunity discovery,digital opportunity creation,entrepreneurial passion,effectuation and business model innovation.The main content includes the following aspects:First,this paper summarizes the related literatures at home and abroad,and identifies the research ideas,which research on the effect of digital capability on business model innovation.In the part of theoretical review,this paper mainly teases out the dynamic capability theory,entrepreneurial opportunity theory and innovation theory so as to provide a theoretical basis for this paper.At the same time,it summarizes and reviews the related research on digital capability,digital opportunity discovery,digital opportunity creation,entrepreneurial passion,effectuation and business model innovation,summing up the different research perspectives,theoretical basis,antecedent and outcome variables of relative variables.Second,this study adopts exploratory case study methods to accurately define the concepts of variables such as digital capability,digital opportunity discovery,digital opportunity creation,entrepreneurial passion,effectuation,and business model innovation based on the case data and constructs a theoretical model of the impact of digital capability on business model innovation.On this basis,this paper put forward 13 research hypotheses,which are mainly used for revealing the effect of digital capability on business model innovation,the mediating effect of digital opportunity discovery and digital opportunity creation,the continuous mediating effect of digital opportunity discovery and digital opportunity creation,the moderating effect of entrepreneurial passion and effectuation.Third,this paper finally determines the formal scale contains 53 items through team discussion and pre-research etc.And then we issued the questionnaires in Beijing,Hangzhou,Changchun and Xi'an to collect 389 valid questionnaires in total by field consultation,mail and email.This paper uses both SPSS 22.0 software and AMOS 24.0software to test the reliability and validity of the sample data.The results show that the scale has good reliability and validity.And then,the SPSS 22.0 software is used to multiple regression analysis on the sample data.The results show that all the 13 hypotheses are supported by data.Subsequently,the test results are analyzed and discussed.Fourth,in this paper,we summarize the research conclusions,and put forward five innovations of this research,and analyze the management practice implications f of the hypotheses supported by the data,point out the limitations and shortcomings of the study,and put forward the future research direction of this paper.
