| Agricultural discipline has a long history and evolves continuously.Being rich in tradition and vigorous,agricultural discipline is closely related to national economy and people’s livelihood in which fundamentality and applicability are combined.The present study explores the construction of world-class disciplines by taking agricultural discipline as an example.The purpose is to shed some light on the construction of China’s “Double First-class” initiative by probing into the situation in agricultural discipline.In China,with the rapid development of science and technology,China’s traditional agricultural production mode can no longer adapt to social development.The low level of agricultural modernization and low efficiency of agricultural industry have become one weak point restricting China’s modernization.Although China’s agricultural discipline has made an enormous contribution by cultivating talents and providing technological and service supports,there still exists a significant gap between the status quo of agricultural discipline and practical needs,either in terms of the discipline construction level or its ability to serve and guide the agricultural industry.This study focuses on the construction of first-class agricultural disciplines in colleges and universities of China and discusses the mutual influence and supporting relationship between the discipline and industry.In the research process,on the basis of “competition theory”,“knowledge management”,the paper comprehensively uses such methods as questionnaire,interview,literature analysis,comparative research,and etc.to make an in-depth analysis of the current situation of the construction of China’s first-class agricultural discipline,aiming to explore the causes of the problems and find solutions.In this study,three agriculture and forestry universities directly under the Ministry of Education are chosen as samples to make a concrete analysis of their construction,so as to reflect the real condition of first-class agricultural discipline construction in key universities,and truly present the advantages and limitations of the existing academic team,academic information,and academic resources in promoting agricultural industry development.Moreover,the efficiency and limitations of relevant policies and government financial investment in agricultural discipline construction are analyzed in order to have a macro understanding of the construction of first-class agricultural disciplines in China and to provide a reference for government decision-making.The study has identified a variety of problems in the construction of first-class agricultural discipline at present: there are such problems in talent cultivation as low quality of students,lack of motivation for professional learning,low practical operation ability,and the low employment rate for the jobs;as to scientific research,there are such problems as the agricultural scientific research failing to meet the needs of agricultural industry,its leading role in modern agriculture being insufficient,the need for further improvement of the level of scientific research,low conversion rate of agricultural scientific and technological achievements,lack of authoritative platform for achievements transformation,and etc.;as to internationalization,there are problems such as a low proportion of foreign academic visitors,low frequency of foreign academic visits paid by teachers or insufficient introduction of foreign teachers,and a low proportion of courses taught by foreign teachers.In view of these problems existing in the construction of agricultural disciplines in China,this study explores the causes from the dynamic relationship between disciplines construction and the development of industries,and the following reasons are proposed as follows: the adjustment of disciplines and specialties lags behind,the curriculum system is not perfect,the collaboration and innovation abilities among disciplines are insufficient,the construction of production,learning and research system is slow,the transformation mechanism of agricultural scientific and technological achievements is not perfect,and the government’s support is not strong enough.In this study,agricultural disciplines of three agricultural universities in two countries with the highest ranking in many disciplines and good reputation in the world for a long time are selected for case study in order to seek research reference.It is found that the first-class agricultural disciplines in developed countries are closely integrated with the development of industry,so as to improve the level of discipline construction through the interactive development between disciplines and industries;they pay attention to the innovation of education content and timely adjustment of discipline direction;they explore ideas about agricultural science construction in the relevant research of industry;they build a team of excellent agricultural teachers;they pay attention to discipline practice and convergence;they pay attention to the investment for discipline construction and so on.The valuable experience of agricultural construction in foreign universities provides a good reference for the construction of first-class agricultural disciplines in China.Based on the experience of the first-class agricultural discipline construction in developed countries,this study puts forward some new strategies to strengthen the first-class agricultural discipline construction in Chinese universities: the first-class agricultural discipline construction in China should meet the industrial demand,refine the development orientation and direction of agricultural discipline,and adjust the objectives and structure of agricultural education;the agricultural science and technology research should be strengthened to meet the industrial demand,emphasis should be put on the combination of agricultural scientific research and actual industrial demand,guide the accelerated development of modern agriculture with scientific research,and pay attention to the construction of agricultural scientific research platform;improve the effectiveness of agricultural social services to meet the industrial demand,cooperate with agricultural economic organizations in depth,promote the optimization and upgrading of agricultural industrial structure,lead the agricultural technology promotion,and realize the win-win development of “production” and “school”;strengthen the internationalization of agricultural education,carry out agricultural teaching and research globally;promote the relevant system construction of agricultural discipline construction,including improving the incentive mechanism of agricultural discipline service industry,introducing and reforming the relevant system of agricultural discipline construction,establishing and improving the fund management system related to agricultural discipline,improving the construction and management of agricultural discipline base and platform,and etc.,so as to solve the existing problems of agricultural science and speed up the construction of first-class agricultural science in China. |
