| With the deep integration of information technology and education and teaching, blended learning has become the new normal of teaching reform in higher education and also promoted the improvement of the quality of talent training in higher education. In the past two decades, more and more researchers and teaching staff have paid attention to the quality and effect of blended learning supported based on technology, and student engagement is a common evaluation method to measure the quality and effect of college students’ blended learning.Previous studies have shown that student engagement is very important to students’ learning, and it has been regarded as a key factor in understanding and predicting students’ learning success.Through literature survey and questionnaire survey,it is found that the level of college students’ engagement in blended learning environment still has room for improvement. In order to improve the level of college students’ engagement in the blended learning environment, how to construct the intervention model is a problem needed to be solved.Based on the “Response to Intervention”(RTI)theory, this study takes the measurement results of college students’ engagement in a blended learning environment as the data basis, and adopts the process evaluation method to continuously monitor the level of learners’ student engagement.First, make intervention decisions based on student engagement data.Next, select intervention objects and determine intervention levels. Then, provide personalized guidance and intervention for these learners’ problems.Meanwhile, evaluate the intervention effect of learners’ student engagement at each intervention stage in order to provide guidance for the following personalized intervention decisions. This study determines the influencing factors of college students’ engagement based on the influencing factors of college students’ engagement in the blended learning environment.Based on the theoretical foundations of self-determination theory, social comparison theory, achievement goal theory, and RTI theory,it analyzes the intervention mechanism, proposes intervention strategies, and determines the intervention levels. Finally,an intervention model of college students’ engagement in a blended learning environment is proposed. At the same time, both the mixed method and case study method are used to verify the effectiveness and intervention effect of the intervention model for two rounds of experiments,so as to continuously optimize and improve the intervention model. The details are as follows:1.Determining the influencing factors of college students’ engagement in the blended learning environmentThrough literature survey,we develop both the scale and influencing factor scale of college students’ engagement in the blended learning environment, analyze the current situation of college students’ engagement and determine the influencing factors. The results of multiple regression analysis show that the instrumental support factors and peer behavior support factors have significant effects on behavior engagement;peer behavior support factors, instrumental support factors and teachers’ emotional support factors have significant effects on emotional engagement;instrumental support factors, peer behavior support factors and teachers’ behavior support factors have significant effects on cognitive engagement.2.Constructing an intervention model of college students’ engagement in the blended learning environmentThis study analyzes the intervention mechanism of college students’ engagement in the blended learning environment by taking the influencing factors of college students’ engagement as the entry point.By discussing the external mechanism of student engagement intervention from the theoretical and operational layers of the intervention strategy and analyzing the internal mechanism of student engagement combined with the motive theory at the same time, the principle of intervention strategy design is obtained.Based on the theoretical support of the RTI theory and the data support from the analysis results of the student engagement intervention mechanism, this study constructs an intervention model that includes four modules: learner data base, intervention engine design, intervention implementation process, and intervention effect evaluation.3.Two rounds of implementation and effect verification of the intervention model of college students’ engagementBy applying the student engagement intervention model to the real teaching environment, this study carries out two rounds of college courses experiments in the blended learning environment, provided two times of intervention before class, during class and after class, and iterated the intervention design during each round of experiments. And based on the results of the first round of course experiments, the intervention strategies and experimental equipment were optimized during the second round of course experiments. In the real teaching environment, the blended learning activities of the whole course were carried out by Superstar learning App and Fanya learning platform and a large number of relevant learning process data was collected, which were including learners’ online behavior data, discussion data, classroom video data, interview data, brain wave data, academic performance, learning points and so on.This study used the design model of the comparison between the experimental class and the control class before and after intervention and the experimental class itself before and after intervention to conduct empirical research. The statistical analysis was carried out on the data results,EEG data and interview data, and the results showed that the intervention strategies proposed in the study had positive effects on students’ behavior, cognition and emotional engagement and the effect of the second round of intervention in the course was better than that of the first round. And the result also showed that the optimized student engagement intervention model could improve most of the levels of college students’ engagement in the blended learning environment. The innovation of this study mainly reflected in the following points: Combined with the RTI theory,a student engagement intervention model was constructed, which was based on learner needs, monitoring the learner’s learning process, and able to make teaching adjustments according to the learner’s response. The effectiveness of the intervention model was verified in combination with real classroom situations. Therefore, the intervention model has some practical meaning. This study collected various data including course records, online learning behaviors, learner activity records, online discussion texts, offline EGG data of learners and interview which enriched the student engagement data of learners and verified the effectiveness of the intervention model on learners’ student engagement in behavior, cognition, and emotion from multiple perspectives to fully characterize learners’ online and offline student engagement levels as much as possible and made the intervention effect evaluation more accurate. The intervention experiment environment of this research selected the same group of subjects, and continued two rounds of experiments in which two courses were combined horizontally and vertically in one academic year. The intervention model was being improved based on the evaluation data of intervention effect of the experimental group itself compared and the experimental group and the control group compared, learner characteristics and changes while the design of intervention experiments was iterated,so as to verify the effectiveness of the intervention model in long-term application. |
